Iust got a personal request to voice a tag line for a small northern community radio station. Looks like just half a dozen words.
He's asking for my rates and I've never done this kind of thing before!!! So I'm turning to you for help. What's the industry norm for this if you're a pro and how much should a newbie (a very talented newbie but a newbie nonetheless) discount this by?
I didn't see such info on the voice123 website.
THANKS MUCHLY!!! |

Wow, tough question Esther. First of all you have to consider the market size. You said "small northern community station" so it sounds like a VERY small market. If you're talking about northern Chicago or northern L.A., that's a whole 'nuther story!
When you say 'tag' is it at the end of a spot for an advertiser, or is it a radio i.d. that will run a LOT for the next year or two for that station? You need to know.
If it's just to tag one sentence onto the end of a spot for an advertiser, you're realistically looking at $50-$75 for a small market station. If it's a station liner, then you'd probably do well to ask for around $250 if it's going to run for a long time.
Hope this helps. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Hi Esther,
Just because you're a "newbie" you really shouldn't discount it because of that. If the guy likes your voice and wants to use you, being a newbie doesn't really matter.
Good Luck! _________________ John Weeks

It also depends whether this is a one shot deal -- or if they are going to use you for regular work.
Small statons are loath to spend any money they don't have to -- so keep that in mind.
That said -- I would say 75 to 100 dollars seems fair.
I agree being a newby is no one's affair if they want you. _________________ www.MichaelSchoen.net
