I got selected to do a breif daily podcast for a west coast newspaper. This was a V123 posting from just yesterday. (submitted audition attached) I'm actually filling in for a regular but I learned the submission process and posted the first podcast today. (There was one gaff that I forgot to edit out, but I won't let that happen again) I guess this kind of thing works out OK for someone like me on the east coast to record daily at 7:30 AM while it's 4:30 AM on the west coast.

Small pay, but could be steady and may lead to other things.
So, I'm posting this and any other gig anyway.

Still feels good! Dancing

David, congrats! I went after that one, too. As I recall, that was multiple scripts each day and a commitment to be available at the same time each day. I shot them a monthly retainer that might have shocked them.

Or, they just liked you better!! Enjoy! daumen rauf

I, too, recall answering that lead. And I'm pissed I didn't get it.

And I'm happy you did, Dave!

Good job, buddy!

(P.S.: I know why I didn't get it. They never opened mine! Probably heard Dave's and said 'This is the guy!')

Thanks everybody.

Deb:
No reverb added. I probably had the monitor on while recording that demo, giving a reverb effect. It passed the audition anyway.
You must be busy, haven't heard from you so much. Hope that's the case.

Hi folks (and congratulations to David by the way)

I've just received an offer of regular work through a Client I recorded for earlier this year courtesy of the "other site". He beat down my price quote by a third for that gig but obviously likes my voice (well he does! He said so!) So . . . I'm unsure how to price this job. I usually do one-offs at a minimum hourly rate. Also, UK rates are higher than USA rates for voiceover so I have to bear that in mind when quoting.

This job is regular daily podcasts, 20-30 seconds at the same time of day. As a British voiceover recording for a North American podcast company, there's obviously a bit of novelty factor in the accent which perhaps justifies upping the price a bit, but basically I truly haven't a clue what to quote. I don't want to lose the gig by overquoting but neither do I want to have the Client gleeful over my undervaluing of myself!

I note the comment from David "Small pay, but could be steady and may lead to other things." Dare I ask what is a reasonable rate for 20 - 30 secs of press release every weekday, bearing in mind that I get hammered on PayPal fees for cross border payments and currency exchange, so would like to cover that aspect somewhat.

All advice gratefully received - and I need to get back to him within a few days.

Cia.....you should make your own thread for this. It is worthy of it. Maxine, Sabrina, even Maggie might be better people to comment on this than I. I don't anything about your client but, be careful about people dangling the "more work" carrot. I fell for that with a "wanna be" client a long time ago and got burned.

David, I am a weather nut so I am particularly jealous! Way to go! Smile

September:

It was really more about local news items than weather. I read a couple of stories about intense weather in other parts of the country, but for local it was more like "Today - Partly Cloudy, High 58F, winds WNW at 5 to 10 MPH." Kind of clinical and not at all like the audition script.

Anyway, this was just a 6-day deal and it's now completed as of yesterday morning. I'll post again if I become a regular with the service. Thanks everybody! hallo
