I've been here for over two years and have gotten three gigs. It's been rather disheartening, so much so that I've kind of fallen off lately. I'm also seeing fewer leads coming through; is that due to this SmartCast thing or are the gigs just slowing down as we enter November?

Anyway, here is my URL with my three demos; I welcome any constructive feedback. The first was coached by my voiceover teacher and produced by her engineer; the second two were done by me on my PC.

I'm keen to hear any feedback or suggestions you may have. Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi Berry,

Your demos aren't that bad. Your Production demo is the best one out of the three.

For your commercial demo is ok, but from my point of few I'm hearing you read the part a bit. Also your levels for you mic were to high and it left your voice over powering every thing and it was close to making your voice come out as cracking as if the volume was to high.(couldn’t think any other way to put it)

For the Character demo it wasn’t half bad (and I mean that in a good way) The only problem I heard was that for the first half I really only heard you and not the charter. At the end though, when you did the poker room. It was the best part since the voices were there own and you had fun with it as well so it sounded better.

I hope this helps you out a bit.

Vincent

Barry, first of all, don't get too disillusioned. The low ratio of gigs to demos seems to be the norm. There are SO MANY talents on this site responding to leads, it's amazing any of us get ANY jobs at all. Just keep plugging away.

Next... your demos and your voice.
My impression is that you're talented and versatile. I personally liked your character voice demo the best because it showed flexibility, warmth, and some pretty nice interpretations. But all of the demos are strong, although I think the mega-heavy voice that's dominant in your production demo isn't going to be that highly sought-after nowdays. It seems clients are more and more looking for a 'real' voice (thank God!). And that's what I heard more of in your 'character demo' oddly enough.

I honestly can't offer any advice on how you can do better other than just keep responding to leads while also building up your own network of clients. Over the past few years I've picked up a small handful of local clients in my areas - cable t.v. producers, small video production shops, and a radio station or two - that continue to send me some good regular work. And the trick is to get a client, and then turn them into a regular, repeat client. With your talent, that shouldn't be hard. Just don't give up!

My best to ya!

Thanks for the kind words, Scott. I have to keep in mind that determination is what will win out over anything and everything -- if you just have enough of it. kettensaege
