Hi i'm new to this forum so please be gentle

OK, i've been recording in studios on and off for nearly three years now but I want to be more productive and set up a home kit so I can produce my own work.

I am savvy with audio editing software and I have looked at various trade magazines and done some research on the subject... so at this point I know my ISDN from my DAT, FTP and MP3 and my Cool Edit from my Pro Tools, Vegas, FCP and the likes but in terms of brands and quality of affordable recording equipment I have been NO IDEA where to start.

Any suggestions?

Hey, I've helped individuals with numerous home recording questions.
Heres my suggestion : If you have a very good computer at least P4 or
better.. The Lexicon Omega audio Interface for USB connectivity.
For Firewire, go with a Presonus Firebox. Both come with Cubase LE, recording software and is easy to use. The software is limited to 20 MP3 encodings, but the MP3 encoder can be purchased for $16.50cdn dollars
for unlimited encodings. There are tons of tutorials online for this software,

I do studio installs, help and support for a living..basically anything studio or audio related. I know a thing or two.

Be carefull of certain USB interfaces that offer Phantom Power...Needed for condenser mics. May cause noise or distortion problems.
A good quality Condenser Mic and Pre Amps are what you need to consider when using recording gear especially for voiceovers. What goes in will need to come out. If you require specific information contact me
at, ( tyler.jones@plexusrecords.com ). There are special things a voiceover talent can do to enhance his or her stereo imaging. Great for Hi Definition. And it's reasonably simple to do. I'll keep you all posted.

These forums are fairly full of voice people who give of their time, knowledge, and experiences.
I salute them, but also wonder a tad about all the missing Big Talents who eschew the chance to contribute.
And yet, there you are: obviously a firecracker on the technical/production side and stepping up to freely lend your expertise.
