Tell me more about your equipment and I will try to help you.
1)What Kind of Microphone do you have?
2)What does the plug at the end of your microphone look like?
3)What equipment is your microphone plugged into?
4)What kind of headphones to you have?
5)What does the plug on your heaphones look like?
6)What equipment are your heaphones plugged into?
If these questions seem dumb to you please understand that I have no idea what your experience is...
Cheers-

Hey Tom,
Since I'm not an audacity user I can't offer too much software help. I'd reccomend taking this question over the the "Geek Place" (another forum on this site).
I imagine you have already poked around with your device (soundcard) settings/propoerties? Also, when you do get around to posting your question with the pros, you may want to make sure that you specify not just the problem you are having but also the steps you have taken for solving it.
Good luck,
-J
PS. "standard" is a loose term... Headphones generally have a 1/8 inch (mini) or 1/4 inch plug. There are others as well... but accurate info will be key in problem solving _________________ **Even the caged bird sings**
