Hey guys!

Sorry it's been such a long time since I last posted - starting a new job has been a bit of a brain buster and I haven't had much time to practise my VO.

Anyways I just had my 'first' voice over class (I say 'first' as I have had one before - but it was more of a 'hey lets make you a demo even though you suck') lol well yeah anyways.

Living in the UK means my choice of voice over courses is extremely limited - mainly because.... well thye just don't exist! You can do "master classes" (which I did) which are ridiculously expensive, last just 4 hours - and owuld be great if you were at the level to make a good demo, but unfortunately I wasn't.

Anyways after looking on the internet and looking at voice123.com - I found Debbie Munro (and listened to one of her webinars which was awesome!) - so I got in touch with her as she did telephone courses. I thought it might be a bit weird - but then thought what they hey! Not like I have any better options!

She was so nice, and very accomodating for me (considering a 7 hour time difference!) - and took time out of her weekend to give me my first lesson.

Being from the UK, having to make an hour long long-distance call was a bit worrying - luckily the telephone company we are with allow you to subscribe for an international call policy meaning for like £1.50 a month, calls to america and canada would be 2p a minute instead of 16p!!

The Lesson:

OK so anyway called her up yesterday evening (which was like 11am for her) and I had my lesson.

It was awesome! I really, really enjoyed it. For one thing it opened my eyes just to really how much effort, practise and work you need to put into this type of career to get good at it. With the 2 scripts I had (one was an ad on kids tv for discovery kids and another was for bikes USA) - we went through the ABC's - Audience, Background, Character, etc - and even after a few tries I noticed a difference (from completely absimal to average) - which for me was great!! Very Happy

I'm definately going to keep up with these lessons - I don't know if I will ever become an established voice over, or if I will even get a gig! But this is so much fun it's worth every penny even if I don't Wink

Basically this post was just for those of you guys out there who may have been contemplating doing a telephone course/lesson - just to let you know from my experience they are pretty darn good!

Thanks Debs! Very Happy

Luke
