Thanks everyone....it WAS a hard blow to be that close and not get it because I didn't sound old enough. Older wasn't in the description. I could have made myself sound older if I had known. It was supposed to be a cross between conversational/narration...not sing songy....etc. Nothing about older. hahahahaha The guy also told me that the guy who got the gig, his read was just as good as mine, so the deciding factor was the older sounding voice. Oh well....I can handle rejection quite well....but this gig was for 16 :30 national spots with the guarantee of continuing work! I was so close....but alas....no cigar. sigh lol

Oh.... then in that case....
Just kidding
I know it didn't win the gig, but I would definitely not call this demo a "losing" demo!

Okay (oh crap, should I REALLY do this?)... Tom... your voice is GORGEOUS in this demo. I mean that. But can you do this more conversationally? I know I keep harping on this over and over and over, but trust me folks, if we can take these beautiful Vic Harris and Colin Campbell and Tom Greenlee voices and inject some real inflection and conversationality into them, then we can TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!! Bwaahhhhh-hahhh-hahhahahaaha!
So, anyway, seriously, Tom. That might have been what kept you from winning the gig. The winner might just have sounded less like he was reading a script and more like he was simply chatting with us.
I really hope everyone on the forum doesn't think I'm a total butthead for bringing this up, but with the pipes you have, Tom, you are SO CLOSE, and SO CAPABLE of doing killer stuff. But like Colin AND MYSELF, you need to lose the announcer part in you and become the guy next door when you deliver scripts like this.
All that being said, I'm truly sorry to hear you didn't land this one. I wish we could all be toasting in your honor today.

You know Scott.....I wondered that myself, and I could have done it more conversationally, but the direction....deliberately sketchy I'm told....wanted a cross between conversational and narration....not strictly conversational, so I tried to give them what the direction asked....in fact I had done a cut that was strictly conversational, but I kept thinking to myself that I couldn't hear the narration sound they also asked for. Apparently I erred on the side of not conversational enough. But the guy did tell me that they went with the other guy because he sounded older which fit the neighborly/gardeny bill for the spot better.

Tom - you have just been victimized by the worst thing to come along since crack ... hope. A very good friend of mine and I refer to potentially good news as "taking a drag off the hope pipe". It's addictive and once you've got a little hope - you only want more. Take it from one who knows ... hope is a killer.
Hello, my name is Todd ... and I'm a hope addict.

Hey add me to the list....
I am a hope addict too. I inject the stuff directly under my toenails so no one will know.
I think of it as my secret power.

Tom,
That was an awesome demo! Can I tell you... I really liked the way you said, Alkalinity & Pot Ash
Ok, I was just teasing you!
I agree with the others you should be very proud to be in the top pickings.
Something better while be around the corner!
My name is Heather and I am a hope addict
I also love to sing the following song from Spamalot. hmmmmm, la la la la Always look on the bright side of life.....
PS Try doing your injects right behind your left ear. That way it goes straight to your brain and no one can see the needle marks.
