Can anyone please help? I have just joined the site and am trying to upload my demos.

I have no problems getting and MPEG file accepted, but there is static only on the playback. Format I'm sending in is 48kBit/s, 24,000Hz stereo, 5kb/sec.

When I send a WAV file in the format recommended by Voice 123, a message comes up to say there is a problem. (Format: 44.100kHz, 16-bit stereo, 172kB/sec.)

My microphone and gear have been checked by an expert and got the all clear.

I'm sure there's a blindingly obvious answer, but I'd appreciate the help of a smart person!

All the best,

Mike

Michael,

I'm not the smart person you're looking for but convert or save your files as MP3's. They're much smaller than WAV files. And save at a lower bit rate too (128).

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Cameron

Cameron, thanks so much.

The bit rate might well be the problem. The Windows Sound Recorder I have only offers from 56-bit rate to 18 in stereo unless I'm missing something.

Thanks very much for your kind assistance.

Sound Recorder? Check out the Geek Section for other recording software.

Good luck!

Hello Michael,

Welcome to the forums. The specific settings for an audio file should be: Mp3, 64 kbps, Mono, 44.100 hz.

You can convert to these specifics by using free software like iTunes.

I noticed you mentioned "Windows Sound Recorder", unfortunately this tool will not provide the recording quality and capabilities required to create a demo, also take in to consideration that the proper equipment like a professional microphone and specialized software and hardware are required to record using your own computer.

This forum has a lot of information on how to start in the business and how to create your own studio set up, here´s a few links that might help:

Michael-
V123 has some problem when you upload. They do something to the file that tends to add static.

I have had my best luck with 44.1 16k 64bit mono.

Guys, thank you all so much.

I've just downloded a free trial of the Sony Sound Forge, which has done the trick.

Boy, what a headache. I wish I were naturally gifted at this kind of thing!

All the best to everyone and thanks again,

Mike
