(this was originally in the HOLA section but I think it really should be here...)

A big HELLO to all of you out there in v123Land!

I've been a member since last year but have been mostly a lurker on these forums. I've enjoyed reading the advice columns and the experience that others share - thanks to you all for sharing! Sharing is caring!

I've been doing some online voice acting and producing over the last year or so, but because of my full work day schedule plus the internet work I haven't taken the time as yet to look over my site and retool it to a shiny spit-and-polish.

I would love any creative, constructive, deconstructive, satirical, pithy, jealous, angry, or downright spiteful comments you may have as to the site, and any recommendations to improve or flambe it so my talent can be advertised to its full extent.

Surprised

Thanks to you all!

I'm from the "no headshot" school of thought, so I'd leave your photo off.

Also, keep it to 5 or fewer demo tracks . . . you've got tons and it's kind of overwhelming. It's so overwhelming that I have no idea what to listen to first, so I'm not listening at all.

I was wondering if I overdemo'ed it a tad.

I've seen sites with tons of demos and sites with only one or two; finding a good middle ground is something I've been poking at.

I see you pared it down! 5 is much easier to confront. Smile

I listened to your character demo and:

1. You, sir, are a FANTASTIC voiceover!
2. This isn't a character demo, it's a commercial demo. And a good one at that.

Now, if you wanted to do a character/animation demo, you have plenty of material from which to do it. Some of the Batman stuff, for starters!

I might just download your stuff and play around with it. *evil grin* Crap, now I wish you'd left all of it up!

But seriously, keep it to 5 tracks tops on your demo CD. Any more and the person will just be confused as to what to listen to. And just one track is fine, too.

One more piece of advice. The "Narrative demo" isn't a narrative demo, it's just one piece of copy. A narrative demo would have 3 or more pieces. Again, I'm sure you have more than enough stuff to put it together, you just need to get resourceful with the editing Smile

danke danke. i did wonder...

and danke for your comments! any advice is helpful, imho; i want it all and not just the mcnuggets... Smile

Actually according to my demo director/producer (a great lady and a fantastic voiceover instructor) it's two mints in one. I may wish to change that listing to commercial/character when I have a moment...

(5 seconds later)

Right.

You need anything particular just pm me. I'll give you some stuff to play with...

My professionaly produced demo CD is just the commercial/character and the narration, which has 3 other pieces to it and one other I found recently and want to add to it; i just decided to keep the v123 narration piece to a minimum.

It's just that there's more demand out there for a commercial demo than there is for a character. Most of the jobs out there are for a straight "non-announce" read, not a character. So make yourself available to the work by having a commercial demo.

It's kind of like, if you were an on-camera actor and you had only ONE headshot to send around to talent agents, it would be your commercial look. Not your "character" look with a funny expression. Your Commercial look, where you look ready to sell soap!

oddly enough I've been of the impression that there were as many demands for commercial as there is character, but being a newbie and all my impressions aren't as well-rounded as others.

I'll leave the selling of soap to our very intelligent robit... Cool
