Hey guys - I appreciate your time with this:

So, I'm planning a trip to the US this year in late July to try and develop my skills as a VO artist. I'll be in California, visiting LA, San Diego (going to Comic Con, woohoo!) and then heading up to San Francisco before returning to Los Angeles to fly home.

I've been in touch with a few people who run VO workshops and have tentatively lined stuff up with James Alburger, Bob Bergen and the fine folks at Voicetrax West. However, I'd like to do a few more things and I'm keen to hear your recommendations and suggestions. I know there are a couple of postings on VOS and a link to Harlan Hogan's website, but I'm hoping that there are some personal encounters that you guys can share with me.

I'm applying for a local government grant for 'professional development' and really hope that I'll be in the running for support. (Money!)
For this reason, I want to line up as many potential classes as I can as I also need to submit the details of these classes in the grant proposal.

I'd be very grateful for any information you can share with me - on classes or other interesting bits 'n' pieces.

Naturally, I'm totally amped!

Studiously,
Matt C.

If you're interested in learning to record promos and trailers, I recommend Joyce Castellanos. She's awesome! She and Chuck Duran (also amazing) did my promo demo (that I love.)

Hi Matt!

I'm Joe J Thomas, a VA in LA...

Susan Blu and Cynthia Songe have very good classes on characters and animation. They run Blupka (www.blupka.com), and cast VO for the Land Before Time series, Veggie Tales, and many more. I've taken two classes with them, and had my Commercial and Animation demos produced there as well...

If you go to www.blupka.com you can check out the classes and sign up for the notification e-mail. They fill up fast, so be ready to reply!

Let me know when you'll be in LA.
ComiCon would be kool - haven't been there yet.

Cheers,
Joe J Thomas

Thank you, both of you for your excellent suggestions. I'll be contact both Joyce and Susan shortly, as they both seem to do great things. If they turn out talent like you guys, I'm definitely getting some classes!

Joe - I'll PM you closer to my trip and confirm when I'm in L.A. I know I'll be there July 21st and will return twice after I go to San Diego and San Fran. It would be great to talk to you, as I know 1 other person in the US. Shocked

I can't wait to go to Comic-Con, the biggest thing we have here is Supernova, and Comic Con makes it look like a 25% off day in a book store.

Cheers!

P.S. I'd love more recommendations
