I know that there have been a couple of postings regarding the influence of medicaments on the voice recently in this forum, but I'ld like to ask help or feedback on a special issue - maybe some vo talents have any input on this particular subject:
Since a couple of months I suffer from muscular stress in my legs, back and thorax (no, I'm not pregnant and it's also not very alarming but very troublesome) and my wife, a professional pharmacist, by the way, encouraged me to take magnesium preparations against it. This definitely caused amelioration regarding my muscle pains, but I also noticed an alteration in my saliva causing a lot of clicks and noises in my recordings... I've tried several varieties of magnesium preparations so far but always noticed the same side effects. Could anybody affirm this or even have an solution to the problem? Any PHD VO on this forum ?
Thomas
P.S. The "main problem" for a VO about an issues like this one is: tell it your family doctor and he'll take you for a sissy. As a VO a broken leg is never a serious issue, but things like this... pure hell _________________ Thomas C. Gass

Thomas - you could try drinking some warm tea (Chamomile)- prior to your session, and also sip room temp water to hydrate- also try eating a bite of a green apple - the tartness will add moisture to your throat and minimize the clicks - Hope this helps. -
BTW - love Switzerland - been to Geneva many times _________________ SaVoa #07004 THOM - "A well traveled storyteller - let me tell your story!"- www.thomwilkins.com |

Never, never drink anything with ice in it, and drink lots of water during a session, but make it warm, but not too hot with slice or wedge lemon added. An auctioneer I used to work with drank that all time, to keep his voice in shape. The water had to be J U S T R I G H T or he wasn't happy!
Good luck! |

Debbie & Thom
thanks for your replies! I've tried all of your advices as well as my "wonder remedie" the Ting ting yahee Ginger Fudge Cookies - that all works very well but I'm still looking for a possibility to fight the cause and not the effect (beside that, I simply have problems drinking 2 gallons of water during a 6 hour studio day...
I'm not sure what other ingredient in magnesium remedies might cause this effect - and also whether there is a "pure" magnesium preparation (even my wife doesn't know the answer...)
Well, let's see, perhaps I'll find a solution and will keep you informed about it.
So far, many thanks again and keep on groovin'

Try potassium, I used to get Charley horses quite often, specially in my legs.
Now I eat one or two bananas a day, might help. |

| Well as a massage therapist I have to wonder if massage might ease your pain so that you don't need to take anything for it. Elavating the legs can sometimes ease pain in them as well. I'm also a little confused. Is your mouth too dry or too wet? |
