Oh thank goodness, I thought this was going to be another post from....

Opps, I have probably said too much....

On and not only is bacon a gift from God, the sound and smell of it makes me weak.

Excuse me while I run off to Burger King to get me a Quad Stacker with plenty of bacon and cheese.

Dang guys that was fast....thanks!

Rick yours sounds great, but moves back and forth across channels. Is there a way to force it to both all the time?

Where do you get those SFX from. Is there a good library you can buy?

Thanks Keith. I just figured that out. It is a great clip, but they are moving the mic around. I need a steady sound. Vic's will be perfect.

Thanks Vic!

I agree with you completely on the greatness of bacon.

I also eat it for medicinal purposes. Wink

Well, fine! If mine's not good enough for you!

Kidding.

I get my SFX through Firstcom Music. It's the Sound Ideas SFX library mostly. Although this one was from a guy I know who did his own library and threw a few to me for free. I also use Warner Brothers SFX library and Twentieth Century Fox's SFX library. A few other small ones, too that I have through the radio station here. Hollywood Edge is an old one but still good. And Digiffects, very old but decent. I've never really bought them on my own. Always get them free with the Music Libraries we use. Smile

Let me know if you need anything else.

Are not the music and sound effects packages at the station licensed for use by the station and the station only?

Rick-
Yours was great, but the movement wouldn't work for me. Thanks a bunch though.

Allen,

Some are, some aren't. A ton of the older stuff is free and clear. 15-20 year old SFX stuff that has been collected over many people who bought them and left them. However, you are correct that the more recent stuff that we are still under contract with is licensed for station use only. The clip I sent George, as I said, was free to me from a friend who said let anyone use it as they wish.

I'm not the license police...just brought it up because I think we need to be aware of the fine print in library licenses.

I have a producer friend in Florida who was just charged $10,000 for not understanding the limits of the usage rights in one of his libraries. Shocked

It's a good point, Allen. One that I've discussed at length with other Production Directors. When you do a free-lance job (national, regional, even local which goes to other stations) and you put your music behind it, even if you bought it yourself, be aware of the license agreements for that library. Some worry about it, some don't. It's a matter of whether you want to take the risk or not. Chances are nothing will come of it because so many do it, it's almost impossible to track. However, in these days of watermarks and copyright infringement, it does happen. Your friend can probably attest to that. You might not want to assume that all you'll get is a Cease and Desist. Just food for thought.

Indeed, Rick...food for thought. No...my buddy didn't get any notice at all except a letter stating exactly what the damages were. It sure got my attention - even though I always make sure that I strictly follow the usage agreements in my libraries. Plus, I assure my clients that I have the rights to the music and effects that I use which also puts THEIR mind to rest.

Yes, it may be hard to track, but we should know that there are plenty of hungry music providers out there who have their ears-to-the-ground (or the radio/TV) waiting for one of us, or a station, to slip up. The radio/TV station combo I once worked for was sued for thousands because Herb Alpert's manager just happened to be passing through town and heard a "Tijuana Brass" song behind a local dairy spot. Another example? I was recently hired for a spot which required the "Theme from Rocky" behind it. Well, the client wasn't going to pay for the rights so he had to settle for a "smell-alike" track. Which worked fine. Two weeks later, I hear a local radio spot (for a church, ha!) actually USING the Rocky theme under their spot. So, I have to pay for a music library and my client has to settle for a "smell-alike", but this other producer just STEALS the music. Do I feel like turning him in? Damn straight!

The producers who "don't worry about it" should be worried because it is, frankly, theft.

As talent, we of all people, should be sensitive to the use of other's performances as a matter of principle.
