I am recoring an animation. The client wants the format as a WAV with 48000 rate / 24 bits. I record with Audacity, which unfortunately does not have the best quality, as it leaves a buzz on the recording. Anyway, I set up the proper format before recording. the format was fine.

So, I've learned to use WavPad as a way to clean up the audio buzz. However, when I ran the audio though WavPad and proceeded to "save as", it said it would save as a WAV with a rate of 48000 / 16 bits (instead of 24 bits). There is a dropdown box for other options. However, a bit rate of 24 is not an option.

Does anyone know why Wavpad would change my recorded format? Has it actually changed it as the "save as" shows? What can I do to both clean up my audio in wavpad and still maintain the proper format? Any advise? I'm nervous because the client needs this ASAP. Thanks.

I doubt that any buzzing noise is a product of your digital audio editor. There are a lot of people using Audacity with no sign of any such problem.

I don't use Audacity and I don't know for sure - but I would suspect that you may be able to record at 48/24. It may just be a matter of looking around for whatever method is provided to select and deselect the settings for that.

If you have some background noise to clean up, I am convinced that the $45 Goldwave digital audio editor has the best noise filter available at the price - and at that price you get the whole package, not just a filter. By the way, Goldwave will also allow you to record at the higher sample rates.

I have an evaluation sample of another big name noise filter that is very, very expensive and it does not produce better results than the built in denoiser offered in Goldwave - and yet this plug-in costs hundreds of dollars. As you can imagine, I am unlikely to spend hundreds of dollars for a product that does not produce better results than what I already have.
