Just a quick response to Joe's mostly funny retort. Hey, don't knock commercials...they're our collective bread and butter! Really, though, the fact that I've only posted once is demonstrative of the value of time when you are actually working, which is the central consideration in this melee.

Nonie, you said you would be the last person to judge. It turns out you were the first! As I said in my only previous post, hold up the mirror. I wish you well as you proceed on this journey.

The reason I posted is because I care about Nancy and her reputation, which is an issue important to us all. Joe's observation regarding the influx of virgin posters demonstrates that I am not the only one who is moved to support the Guru, Nancy Wolfson, who I consider a friend, a coach and an advisor.

Namaste,
Chris Amodeo

Thanks Chris - I appreciate opinion and your honesty.

It's easy to get jaded out here in LaLa Land...
(gotta watch I don't fall into my sar-chasm!)

Not just in La La Land... anywhere. I too was a little curious as to the number of first time posters. You weren't alone.

Now, BACK TO WORK!

Just gotta chime in. I've known Nancy for a long time. As my former agent and as a mentor. She's a pro and DAMN good. That's WHY she's BUSY. She's got incredible intuition and is totally on top of the industry...which is one of the things I love about her...a coach that'll give your chops AND your business model a work out. Best of luck!

don't necessarily have less valuable opinions simply because they don't spend the bulk of their day blogging on voiceoversavvy or wherever. We took time out to defend someone with a stellar reputation whom we felt was being prejudged somewhat unfairly. And looking at the three-digit number of posts accumulated by the obviously 'professional' posters, that just indicates that they could be spending a lot less time on the computer and a lot more time working...which is what the 'first time posters' are doing most of the time. We love what we do, and hope that anyone else venturing into this territory loves it just as much, because it's a fantastic job with a lot to be grateful for. Just sayin'. Best to all.

Ouch! Rachel.
But you're right: them 3-digit posters are slackers. They embarass me.

That's why I'm dreaming of hitting FOUR DIGITS soon!

Let us all remember that the vo community is a small one... we could work together one day. And generally, those of us who do post are very helpful to one another... which is why we keep coming back for more!! Let us not judge who has more time than others. Everyone's situation is different.... some people are in major markets going to auditions, while others are in their own homes in their studios working... which would make them more accessible to being on a computer/message board.

The observation of first time posters was a good one... generally, on ANY message board, when a bunch of first time posters pipe in, it's possibly a coordinated effort for a commercial/testimonial. Everyone should have some understanding about possible skepticism as well, and maybe be a little more willing to see that side of it.

It doesn't mean the opinions in this post weren't valid. As I said in a previous post, I would definitely consider Nancy myself if ever I'm in the market for a new coach.

Thanks!

I think it's time that people got their panties unbunched. The original poster said she was excited about taking her first class with Nancy and wanted to hear testimonials from people who have worked with her as she has heard great things about her. Nuthin' wrong with that. The problem came when someone had something negative to say about her. I hate to break this to you but one person can't be all things to all people no matter how good they are. Nothing but positive experiences is kind of fishy.

I'm glad that those of you who've had these positive experiences feel strongly to uphold Nancy's reputation-- you should because that was YOUR experience. Thing is, it may not be someone elses and that's okay too. Nonie said she "felt like a number" Well, that was her experience and actually it didn't sound so negative to me-- it wouldn't have prevented me from trying Nancy out.

You see-- we're all different and come from different places that color our experiences. Nancy sounds great-- and I'm sure she is. She just may not click with ALL people. It doesn't diminish her skills and ablility.

Accusing Jane of fishing for negative comments is just ridiculous. She was just checking things out (like a smart person should) before she plopped down her money.

To be honest, like Joe inferred, the responses generated seemed like an infomercial. All one had to say was that their experience was a positive and fruitful one. The comments made seemed out of place-- such a strong reaction.

Thanks Dina. Your post was very much on the mark for me.

Hey, first time posters! We don't know you from Adam. If you want us to trust your testimonials, chime in a bit more. Show some interest in other people's issues. Let us see a bit more of who you are. Maybe then your posts will have more of a real feel to them.

My initial reaction to so many long first time posts was like the Hypnotist bit from SNL ("I Loved It. It Was Better Than CATS. I Will See It Again And Again...")

I have a very different reaction to a friend urging me to try something new, than to a complete stranger. Chat a bit. Introduce yourself. Put your feet up, and set for a spell!

On most of these on-line groups, a person who drops 1 or 2 posts and leaves is considered a spammer (and usually not trusted).

Hi. My name's Joe. And you are?

I answered above without realizing how many more responses there were!! I am thrilled to be part of this industry, getting into it finally after doing other wonderful things for 30-40 years, and I'm sure as some of you mentioned we are not sheltered from people who are not good or honest, so again, being new and not knowing I wanted to get some opinions. I didn't have any real experience with her and wanted to know if I should pursue her.

I am actually thrilled that I have such a rich pool of knowledge afforded me here and will continue to ask about things and people with whom I know nothing...but I am honestly not coming from a bad place at all!

Thank you Naomi, Janet, Dana, Lauren, Michael, Bob S, Blaire, Jeff, Chirstopher etc. (I was judging her on my first impression, that's what humans do) that's why I wanted to hear from you all, but I said I don't usually look for negative first, didn't mention judging, but hey, if you mean that is judging, well, don't we all use your experience to "judge" if not, you're not alive....anyway....it obviously was a misconception and I can't wait to contact her and share what I learned about her and learn from her!!!

I'm too new to realize that most of you don't usually post, but I gotta tell those who might doubt these outstanding reports on Nancy.....with our size pool and targeted students, if Nancy wasn't top rate we would not be reading so many fabulous accelades about her, I just don't believe it would happen. So I'm very happy to hear the great news and I will get back to you one of these days on my next experience with her.

Is it a regular phone that you all use as I only have a cell with a bad mic??

Thanks everyone!!!!
Nonie Craige
So is there some event when we all meet??

Nonie,

Typically I use my cell phone when I'm talking with Nancy for our sessions. It works just fine.

It all makes sense. Sometimes in these forums, as is the case with most email, words on a screen are open to interpretation and thus are sometimes misconstrued (on either end of a debate) so I appreciate the mutual support going 'round. I wish everyone well.

Better than CATS, I'll use her again and again and again...

Ok, gang.

So, I don't know anything about Nancy.

What I do know is that a lot of the postings here read like a testimonial commercial, and many of the posters have only posted once...

Just sayin',
Joe

You may want to pay more attention to join dates than the actual number of posts a person has. Some people like to chime in on discussions only when they deem it necessary...

JUST FOR THE RECORD:

Nancy never said/wrote anything in a nasty tone.....she was inherently upbeat, enthusiastic and trying to help get me a session with her...I was just naive.
bye again.
