Freddie, can we get a sticky thread here where people list what they use. In trying to help people technically, I never know what they have. If they could post there audio chain here so I can refer to it when assisting, that would be great. I'll start....
Shure KSM32 microphone.
Symetrix 528e voice processor.
Lexicon MX200 effects processor.
LynxONE PCI audio card.
Adobe Audition software.

Good idea Colin... Here's my meager setup:
Shure SM58 microphone
PreSonus TubePre preamp
Sigma Tel audio card (via line-in)
Sony Liquid-Cooled computer
Sony SoundForge & Acid w/Magix Audio Cleaning Lab
plus a small mixing board not connected at present...

OK move this here to make it easier.
Now that is easy....don't laugh!
I have a Blue Snowball condenser mic. It connects via a USB cable to a PC I built myself. It had a pretty high end surround sound audio card.
I edit with Audition 1.0. Not 1.5 like a lot of folks.
That is it.
My "studio" is in my basement. I have used foam and sleeping bags to get it to -62/63. That is without kids running upstairs etc....
I also use a Nady metal pop filter.
I am dying to go out and spend 500-1000 bucks on a new setup, but I want to win a job first. Kindof no more good money after bad fetish I have.

I tried that Presonus Pre and didn't care for it. I even changed out the tube for a better one. Still didn't sound as good as the pre in my Symetrix. I ended up trading it with a guy at work for an equipment rack. He likes it for guitar which I'm finding out is the better use of a tube pre.

Seems like the whole "tube" thing's an acquired taste. Or maybe it works better with certain voices. I guess there are even mic's with built-in tubes...
Well, I can always turn it off if it doesn't sound right.
Next on my list: condenser mic, and a processor...

George, you haven't got one job yet? Keep at it buddy, you are improving all the time.
If you could just spare maybe $200 you could get a Shure SM58 and a small preamp. That would help tremendously. Now, I'm wondering if your clicks and pops are the USB mic. That's where the analog to digital is going on and I bet it's not great. Does that thing have any kind of level control?

It has three settings.
Normal or unidirectional
Normal with 20DB pad (I use that when I am doing something where I need to be really loud Sunday Sunday Sunday)
And Omnidirectional.
I am going to post something with just me talking and no processing at all. I think it is doing and OK job. I know it could be a lot better.

OK-
I cut out the dead air. Manually worked on the intentionly popped Ps by using the fade in preset in Amplify.
Then I EQd it with the loudness setting under quick filter. I have the master gain changed there from 84 to 150 from the original setting.
Next I used the Compander setting showed in the screen shot.
Finally I normalized to 85%.

Let me know when you have looked at that, I want to delte the pic so I am not fouling up everyones view.

George... I hear a couple of pops (not mouth pops) on that recording. That is some real funky compansion you've got goin on there. Try some of the Adobe presets instead of customizing. I'm betting that 11.9 to 1 downward expansion below -45 db is causing it. Hard to explain why I think that but I have a reason.
Try the "Vocal Comp -24" preset if 1.0 has it.
