Thought I'd ask if anybody else knows of ways to pamper your voice or care for a raspy one other than the old stand-by Hot Tea with honey?

what are your go to items?

Gargle with salt-water. Use kosher salt, and don't swallow...

Also (back me up on this Rajiv), daily nasal rinse helps to fend off some of the worse symptoms. I use Neilmed, but there are several over-the-counter systems...

My 2 Scents,

Any kind of cough drop with menthol and eucalyptus; hopefully you can find sugar free. Also, place a hot water bottle on your throat when you go to bed. Feels good!

My singing teacher always recommends a glass of red wine, slightly warmed, with a dash of snaps. Probably a good idea to take it before you go to bed rather than just before a vo job, though Wink Skål!

Yeah, but you have to eat it with Haggis and Duck's Blood Soup for it to really work...

I love foreign foods! (And Nordic Humour!!!)

For a real treat, look up "Agutuk"...

Oddly Distasteful,

Mmmmmmm Agutuk!

AGUTUK (authentic) - (ALASKAN ICE CREAM)

Recipe By : http://www.grand-forks.k12.nd.us/~wilder/recipes.html
Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Ice Cream

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 Cups seal oil
1 pound reindeer fat -- (1 to 1.5 pounds)
Berries (salmon berries, blueberries or
blackberries)

Boil the oil and reindeer fat for 2-3 minutes. Cool until lukewarm. Take a
bowlful of loose snow (not too powdery) and add oil. Beat well to avoid
lumps. Let freeze a bit and then fold in wild berries.

Modern Recipe

about 1/2 to 3/4 cup shortening
about 1 cup sugar, or sweeten to taste
about a scant quart berries

Cream shortening until fluffy. You can add a little of the berry juice to
make this softer. Add berries, a small amount at a time, until you use them
all up. Freeze. Serve with smoked salmon strips.

Hi. This is my first savy post so bare with me.

Tea with honey gives me heartburn and makes my throat feel 'dry' and rough. I have a personal secret (well known secret, actually...) that works wonders. I make lemon tea and add a bit of the brown skin of the onion. It is known to soothe the throat. Then I add a nut of margerine (butter is salty, so I wouldn't recomend it) and honey. Margerine is the vaseline of the vocal chords. Have a cup of tea with margerine and everything will run smoothly.

It also tastes great, in my humble opinion.

Wow, Clara - that's a new one for me... sounds pretty good actually...

Nice to meet you, by the way.

If you have a chance, please post an introduction in the "Hello" forum so we know a bit more about you and your goals in the biz.

Cheers,

Thank you, David! Smile

Do try the lemon with onion and a bit of honey and a nut of margerine tea! Very Happy

I have learnt the margerine trick when I was singing with a band. I lost my voice 4 times in 2 months and the only thing that kept me going was 8 hours of sleep every night, a literal vow of silence and tea with margerine.

What other tricks do you guys use to keep your voices in good shape? Does anyone smoke?
