Hey all. Newbie here. I've been asked to quote a project that is pretty huge. There are 4 training cd's. The scripts are approximately 16, 14, 12, and 12, double spaced. The guidelines on V123 say about $60 per page or $300 per hour of completed work. Does this include edit time? What kind of quote should I give them? She says they are a small business and I don't want to over shoot there budget but in the same hand, I don't want to under quote what this would be worth by too much.

Help!

I have a question about the rate sheet. When it says "per hour", does it mean per hour of finished audio OR per hour of my time spent working on the project?

Thanks,
Joy

Hello Joy,
It normally refers to the time you spend on the project and not the timing of finished product.

Happy Holidays.

I'll throw in my 2 cents worth, too. I have a special client that sends me a mammoth amount of work for an online e-learning course that is hours and hours and hours of recording. We've worked a deal where I charge them $800 for each finished, edited running hour of audio. I have to record the script, then edit it into small short audio files, sometimes of only a few seconds each or so, then ftp it all to their site. It sounds like a lot of work, but I figured out that after it's all said and done I'm still earning over $100/hour for my time for steady, ongoing work that has no end in sight. So occasionally, depending on the situation, you may want to consider pricing it for finished work, such as in this case, but this may be the exception.

Thank you for the info. I've had a really hard time with pricing as of late and I want to make sure I'm not swindling anyone but that I'm also charging a comparable price. Being very new to the business it's been confusing trying to make my rates consistent. And not knowing what other people are charging makes it even harder.

Thanks again for the help!!!
