One other thing I've considered on this topic. When we do some sort of watermark, does the client think "this guy thinks he's good enough that we would WANT to steal his work." Seems a little presumptuous.

I have pretty much stopped doing short radio liners. Easy to steal, real obviouis when you alter, usually low pay (if you get paid at all) and seems like an area where the most stealing would go on. Same thing on these podcast intros.

I really like when the client puts in the asterisks or generic names and numbers FOR YOU. This seems courteous. He's saying, I REALLY do only want an AUDITION. I'm not here to steal. Those leads tend to be a little more high-brow.

Also, don't forget about the "allow download" button that can be unchecked. If they want to steal that low quality 123 player audio, they will deserve the low quality they get. Unless of course the talent posted the file here in all its glory.

I had previously thought that the "download" feature was better quality but I just did some testing and it's not. It's the same as playing it off the button BUT it is a bit harder for them to figure out what to do when they can only "stream" it and not "download" it. It can be stolen from the stream but it's harder to do.

I tested this on my demo page.

not only do i mix in a quick tone about every 7 seconds or so, i send a low quality file. maybe they can use it for the web or phone if they really wanted to, but definitely not radio air quality.

on longer reads i don't read the entire script. haven't tried the fake company yet... may give that a try on the next one.
