Greetings!
I know, I'm such a lurker and my posting values are LOW. I really do enjoy reading everyone's posts and feel like I've gotten to know a lot of you helpful people out there very well. Hopefully soon I'll be able to pitch in more comments and stuff, but I'm still trying to find my place.
OK, since I'm still a newbie, here are some more questions I would like to pose to anyone who would be willing to help, even in light of the apparent tumultuous format change of the site:
1) Demos, demos, demos. 2.0 seems adamant on each voice talent having a generic demo for each type of potential category for which he or she is willing or able to participate. My question #1 is: what are some key things or methods to use for some of them (at least give me some clues for commercials, characters, IVR, and narration). I know I need to get a professional one done for the most finesse, and I am still urgently seeking a voiceover class or training course somewhere. (Not much in rural WV).
2) If anyone would like to critique my profile, it would be greatly appreciated. Um...this should be a question: Would anyone like to critique my profile?
3) Is anyone familiar with NCH Swift Sound's WavePad and can perhaps clue me in on some features I may not be aware of? (I guess you sorta have to know what I already am aware of by some psychic or telepathic connection, but, any generality would be good.)
4) What are the best bit rates for recording? I typically record at 44100 in stereo.
That's all for now, and I promise to be less of a lurker and more of a converser soon. Thanks! |

Oh my, Levi..you picked a baaad time for a review.
Everyone's kind'a antsy these days.
Hate to say, but it's not up to snuff, dude. I sort of perked up momentarily on the song piece at about the three-quarter mark, but overall you have a lot of work to do.
The opening bit is ultra-vital. You need to catch the listener, but that awful little home-produced spot is going to send people scrambling for the STOP button.
Slow down, good sir. Take your time. In the almost words of the titanic Orson Wells, serve no demo before its time.
Take some weeks/months to collect your best little snippets. Ship them off to one of our resident production wizards. Begin by working the voice and delivery; by trying to do your own production, you're taking on way too much at this stage.
I'd suggest you take this ill little puppy behind the barn.
Sorry...but hang in.
Perseverance and thick skin are 92.5% of this game.

Yay! I love brutal honesty! But, isn't it good to know I'm nowhere close to being in competition with you guys, considering the very slim leads of late?
Yes, this was certainly home produced because, seriously, I just needed to put something up on the profile, I think. (Maybe not? he squelched sheepishly.)

Great word picture.
Can I do anything with the singing part or my singing abilities? It tends to be my forte (rather than producing a demo, apparently). Perhaps just a singing demo?
You mentioned "resident production wizards". Not sure what that means, but it sounds helpful.
And, finally, you were one of a few key persons I was hoping would respond, having read many of your postings (as I read lurkily).
Thanks a ton! I'll be vehemently pursuing perfection.
