Hello Andy,
An ISDN line can be used to connect to the Internet only where the service is available, you may want to check with your local providers.
Not really sure if it can be used with a phone patch, you can also check this with your local carrier.
Maybe someone else can give us more info. |

Andy,
The ISDN for audio is totally different than for Internet. Your ISDN for audio is dedicated lines that run into your ISDN box like a Telos Zephyr and it actually has numbers so that clients can dial directly into your box for the session. It's expensive for the service and unless you use it alot, most talent wait till later in the game to warrant getting it.

| You can use ISDN for Internet and regular phone service with an ISDN router. (I had this setup back in the 90's) but it is slow at only 128K for data. Plus you would need to find an ISP that offers the service (somewhere to dial into for data.) I don't think this is avaiable much anymore. ISDN is older technology that has settled down pretty much to being used only for high quality audio with an ISDN "codec" at both ends of the line. (Telos Zephyr.) The service from the phone company is very pricey as well. I would say that for voice over talent, it will dissapear soon. I think a simple phone patch (hybrid) that uses a regular phone line for coaching and then high quality file for delivery is much more efficient and cost effective. Plus the cost of a Zephyr (or simillar product) is a little hard to stomach. |
