Confused Why, oh why does it take me so long to warm up to the copy and relax? Does this happen to you? I get the copy and I will have plenty of time before I do the audition and then I choke up. Pressure, Pressure..I hear that Billy Joel song in my head. I think it's because I have yet to land my first gig and it's getting to me. I have had a handful of auditions but yet to get that first paying job with an agent or on my own. I have been working with a voice/acting coach and learning but I need more time with her and more money to have more time with her. Any suggestions would be great.[/b]

I just remember a conversation with Hillary Huber, who is a gifted VO who has won awards for her audio books. She told me that she didn't book ANYTHING her entire first year as a VO.

Keep doing what you're doing. It'll happen.

Ask your coach for some relaxation techniques. Imagine actually speaking to a real person when you're recording, instead of to a mic. Try thinking of warm Jello. (OK, maybe not that last one.)

If you are impatient, this business will TEACH you patience.

Hey, if "warm jello" stumbles you out of the tension and choke, then use warm jello!
