If you have CEP I shouldn't worry about getting audacity, unless you need it to convert/save to Mp3.
I built my home studio on a minuscule budget; mixer (with built in preamp for my microphone) £70, mic £100, cables around £20, sound card for PC £100 - total cost around £300, but in the states equipment is cheaper. grrr...

If you have the last version of Cool Edit (before it became Adobe Audition - I think it's version 2.0) it already works with/saves to mp3 format. If you have v1.5 and you need to convert from .wav to .mp3, download MusicMatch Jukebox. (It's now part of Yahoo.) You can get the newest version of the player free and it will allow you to convert almost any audio file format to almost any other file format.
Hope this helps - and good luck!

Hi Kim
I only joined a few months ago and found myself worrying over equipment. As I've recorded on a home studio in the past using Apple equipment / Pro Tools etc I didn't think I could get quality from anything less. Well, I purchased Garageband ($100) and a small mic ($30) and I'm on my way. Quality is comparable as I use the tools in the program to get the best out of it. No job offers yet, but it will come!
Good luck and best regards

Consistent workers have their own equipment.
Equipment costs money.
Must make money to buy equipment.
Can't make money without auditioning.
Anyone else do auditions out of a studio? Any other ideas to help me think outside the box to get enough money to buy equipment?
Putting it on a credit card is not an option, as we just purchased a home.
I've thought about doing "talking homes" for realtors to generate the income... but looking for any other success stories and ideas. Surely, someone in this forum has been there....
Thank you! |

Hi,
you can save/convert to Mp3 or WAV etc on CEP you don't need Audacity, I work in my study with a decent mic that cost me £70, about £120, and a laptop.
If you would like more info on CEP feel free to contact me direct, and I'll do my best to fill in the blanks.
Good Luck

I was just listening to your demos and the Italian demo has a lot of plosives...try to back off of it and/or use a pop filter. By the way, and not to hijack the thread, but I'm going to start up my second Italian class soon so I'll be listening in for some pointers!
Ciao,
Cameron
