Dang, how am I going to get rid of that drawn out syllable problem. Maybe I don't know how to do it any different.

methinks 'quai' is pronounced more like 'kay' that 'Koo-way'; otherwise that seemed like an elocution solution.
Hard to believe that that remains as some sort of announcer test, though....not exactly tongue-twisting, is it?
I will not try it, since my Savvy recording time has now officially surpassed my paying time for 2007.

OK, here's my shot. I made sure I could get through it without edits. So, without further ado... here is my unedited speal of the "announcer's test."

Um, do you mean quay? Which over here (UK) is pronounced the same as key and is another name for dock...I'm just full of useless information...sorry, no offence intended I just mean to try and help in my own little way, I'll shutup now.

I read this aloud once and got it PERFECT.

I recorded it, this was the second read only, and nearly fluffled (almost fluffed) a few words. I decided to post it anyway in all it's raw glory.

One moment while I clean my chair...

Dude! Orson J Thomas should be your name! I like that background noise coming through the efx like you were transmitting from Mars.

Yes. Some time back in the late '50's friends and I would 'test' each other. It's nice to see it again and finally written down. Jerry Lewis was a childhood 'hero' who made us laugh a lot. I've remembered it since then...it works.

Okay, here's my take on it with some added words like I learned it when I was a kid. Can I be an announcer now? Can I? Can I? C'mon Can I? Razz

Thanks much Noel!

I swiped some of the background noise from the original (during the pauses). Got about 40+ seconds and looped it. Added a bit of eq on the voice too...
Orson J Thomas
(I like the sound of that!)

I only just found this thread, so forgive me for referring back to the Orson script that you started with. Here's what I learnt.

1. As a skinny little guy, I just can't do Orson. Just not built for it.
2. Orson Welles was only 24 when he recorded this. Doesn't that give you ALL a feeling of awe at the man's talent?
3. Some of you guys came so damn close to what Orson read, that I am in awe of some of you myself. Robert, powerful and dark, like a serious life or death warning, Joe, with an amazing handle on the rhythm and pacing.

Tell me guys, does else anyone hear Orson's voice (at 25) as being something like a more focused and intense, less pompous Kelsey Grammar as he spoke when he played Frasier?
I'd love to nominate part of the the "How to run a newspaper" scene from Citizen Kane as one script I'd love to hear some of you interpret. The original is such good stuff I think that it will bring out the best in the
voices that post here. I'll post it here, haven't got the words handy but they're not too hard to find by Googling. It's shorter than the first one, but there is another character to deal with briefly.

Hi,
I have to plead utter ignorance here (Ignorance is bliss and I'm Happy!)
Believe it or not, I've never actually heard the original Orson Welles read of the War of the Worlds.
But: I've done a quick and dirty take on how I imagine this script would sound.
With a couple more takes, I'm sure I can lose the Strine!!
I guess it may also sound better with a mild, but ominous "Voice Of Doom" reverb behind it?

.....Standing by now to be shot down in flames! Confused

Cheers!

Steve Royal

T'wasn't half-bad, Steve. I rather enjoyed your take; especially the first half. After that, you seemed to lose a bit of interest and sounded more like you were just reading.
Real nice ebb-and-flow to the intonation, however, and I think the Big Boy would have been pleased with your elegant articulation.
Nice job. Keep a close ear on your sibilants: they do rear up and bite at times.
Hope to hear more of you.

That's so funny, I always thought that Kelsey Grammar sounded like Orson.
