Attention...Attention: Technically dim man drowning in client request.
SOS; SOS.
Throw me a lifeline.....
Customer wants my job sent in 320 Kbps and says he's getting it in 128.
"I'll get right on it," I said. I gleaned my 3,412-page ProTools manual, and find no such reference.
My forehead met the keyboard.
As far as I can tell, I've got only the bit and mhz options.
What's a Kbps, and where can I get me some?
Thanks, all. |

| Rob...you should have an option when you "Save As" to change the bit rate of the mp3 file you are saving. Just find the 320K option instead of the 128K. |

Tom:
thanks for the quick rescue...
I'll try 'er again, but I save in WAV convert to MP3 with another program.
My ProTools won't do that for me.
And the only options I get on Save is Sample Rate and Bit Depth.
There's no mention of 320's or 128's or kbps or munchkins anywhere.
(Oh Oh! My eyes are crossing....) |

Goodness, George...I come here looking for a clear, concise, and (mostly) simple way to please my customer and you send me off to read 272 more pages and learn a whole new bunch of buttons and ziggy-zaggy lines!
That Wave Pad won't do a thing I ask it of it.
And if I have to learn how to use the thing, my eyes go cros......THWUMP! |

I'd appreciate any suggestions. |

There's always "LAME" freeware for converting to MP3 format. It's what Audacity uses when you want to save as mp3.
Here's a link to the site for you:
http://www.mp3dev.org/
You can use Audacity to output a 320kbps mp3, or just use LAME from the command line (use the "-b 320" to get a constant bitrate of 320kb).

OK,OK...the scare is over.
After much head-scratching and reviving smelling salts, I realized that my Xilisoft MP3 converter has a little Tools place where I can change the whatchamcallit to whatever funny numbers I want.
Complicating matters was the fact that ProTools is supposed to be able to do it, but had been incompletely installed way back when.
Thanks to all for scrambling to help....I'm going to be all right.
This, for example, is being typed at 320 Kbps.
(Sorry for the commotion you're probably immersed in Lynne) |

| It's ok, just had the info back, which is really helpful for future use. No problem. Good luck with the project. |

Robert, next time try converting from high quality wave on to mp3 (itunes will do it) set it up to 320 kbps stereo, 44.1. Make sure the file you are converting is also in stereo or else it will come out as 128 kbps mono.
Hope this helps. |

Here is a link to a site that will allow you to download the Razor Lame mp3 encoder. It may take 5 minutes or so to look it over and figure out where things are and what to do with 'em - but it ain't hard - and it works very well.
