Client called out of the blue today to see if I was available for a session this afternoon. I don't have a phone patch, but they made no big deal about it - I just talked into my telephone while recording in my studio. Client and agency bantered on the other end... an enjoyable half hour for this short TV tag. I have no idea which read they'll select... we did about 50 zillion. Here's a sample!

Oh, by the way, I was given a 4 rating originally. (Yes, there's always hope!)

I really like that read, Kent, and it wasn't easy to do, coming out of another unheard lead. Very smooth and friendly. Great job!

Good Job, Kent!

I auditioned for the same one and also got a 4. They asked for a Geico type delivery a la "15 minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance", more deadpan than yours and that's what I gave them. Maybe they got tired of listening to all the Geico-types and decided on your audition just because it was better and fit the copy. I tried to give them what they asked for, you gave them what they really needed! (No sour grapes) Smart move on your part.

Sometimes, when you read somebody's description of what they are looking for, a little voice inside your head may say "That's what they think they want, but it really isn't. This is what they want." And if you give them what you know they want rather than what they say they want, you might just get the gig.

On the other hand, you might just get a 1-star rating because you didn't give them what they wanted. It's a crap shoot. Cool

Nicely done! I liked the second read the best. Let us know which they pick if you find out!
