Hello again fellas!
I´m trying to get a place in the over voice bizz, but I don´t know where to star. I´ve been reading most of the messages posted in the forums to get to know what should I do and buy to be able to become one of you.
I would really appriciate to get any recomendation about hardware and software for a bigginer, someone starting from 0 (all the words you use about micros, recording machines or the tools you normally use, sound to me like from another world. So I really need something including all kind of explanation about how to use them).
Also, reading your messages I realize how far I am to get anywhere closed to where you are, but I refuse to give up before starting, althout I will lisent to you if you say I´m probably waisting my time...
Anyway, thanks for your help and thanks for your warm wellcome on the "Hello" forum. |

Wow Larua-
You aren't asking much. You need to know "everything" huh?
Well I would start by reading all the posts in geeks and newbs....then go to pros. In the mean time, check out chit chat for fun and to get your feet wet.
As you are reading those other forums, you will start to have some specific questions. Once you do, post them here and you will get lots of help.
It is a tough but fun process.

Hi Laura, and welcome!
I know it may seem a bit daunting at first, but hang in there if you really enjoy voicing.
As for advice, you would probably do well to find a VO class near you. A quality class will give you a good intro to VO, studio terms, sessions, etc. Please ask us, or someone you trust, before signing up or shelling out $$$. There are a lot of good, and some bad classes out there.
Failing that, pick up and read some books on the industry. There's a thread elsewhere that lists a few of the more popular ones. I like Word of Mouth, and The Art of Voice Acting.
Lastly, as my friend Bob likes to emphasize, it is Show BUSINESS. You'll have to think of it as a business in order to achieve your goals. It's work, but it's worth it!
Nice to meet you,
Joe J Thomas

p.s. I do know everything - I just can't remember it all at once... |

Thank you for your advice. The truth is that in normal circunstances I will go for many lessons as I could find, but I´m living in Dubai (UAE) and here is everything so new that I haven´t found any academy, agency, or anything related to over voice.
I´ve been reading most of your post in the forums an it amazed me how much you know about all the shoftware and hardware, I see you all have a lot of expirience and most of you have worked in radio or acting also. I realize how long the way for me is going to be. So the sooner I star the better. Eventually, I´ll go back to Europe and there I´ll have more chances to follow lessons.
Thanks a lot again. You are all guys very friendly and that is incouraging!!! |

Hello Laura,
Well, that is quite a tricky question. A good place to start will be to look in to voice coaching (as Joe mentioned), it needs to be your first step and probably they will help you with your recording set up and demo recording.
Get as much info as you can and feel free to use this forum as a learning tool, we´ll all be here to help. |
