Hello!
I have an equipment question. I have a friend who is going to school (although he is on temporary hiatus) for sound... something, I don't know what exactly it's called, and I can't get a hold of him at the moment, and I'm tired, but it deals with soundboards, sound manipulation, equalization, noise cleanup, etc., and he has offered to help me get started with this whole voice acting thing, however, I lack a microphone. I've searched the net quite a bit on this subject (no stores I can look at in this itty-bitty town), but I haven't found much, and I'm not too knowledgeable in the field of microphones in the first place, but I'm trying! What I need to know is what is all the equipment between a microphone and a computer that you need to link the two together? I ask because it looks like condenser and diaphragm microphone jacks are considerably larger than your average computer input jack. Am I just misjudging that? Do most microphones come with everything you need? Is there another adapter/piece of equipment you need to link them up? Thanks very much for your time!

Wow... John....

For starters, please read the 'sticky' at the top of this forum labeled "Random Thoughts for Newcomers" if you haven't already done so.

Next, wander over to the "Geek Place" forum. The questions you pose have been asked here many times and you'll surely find all the answers you're seeking by spending some time browsing that forum (as well as the others here). Good luck!

Blast. I really must be horrible at searching forums. I can usually find anything I need anywhere else on the net! I feel pretty dumb. Off to browsing... Thanks much!

lol, I shall, and that's all quite true. After a month and a half of trying to raise that little extra bit of cash for a subscription, I'm finally back here! I'll be posting a demo for critique soon, and I'm bracing for impact, heh.
