It happens. People are listening to the generic demos and casting Union spots. Got a call today from an agency on one coast to do X number of spots using ISDN for a major company on the other coast. No custom audition. Agent is in the loop now to handle the paperwork.
I am encouraged.

What a rare and exciting way to land a big one, Connie; well done!
Of course, it doesn't hurt that your talent and professionalism shimmer through the demos.
Voice On!

You know - now that I am thinking about it - the fact that it was Union AND ISDN narrowed the pool a quite a bit.
However, after the NBC News unofficial auditions that Peter did a few weeks ago, it reminds me that people have a sound in their head while casting and that plays a primary role in making a decision.
(Writing this while relaxing in my Ritz Carlton bathrobe as I finish up day one of a three day live announcing gig. The free wi-fi helps offset the cost of the bottle of Cabernet that I got out of the mini-bar. Call time tomorrow - 7AM with a scheduled end time of around 10PM. So long day tomorrow...)

Y'know, I was JUST on the verge of jotting a little congratulatory note to the lovely Ms. Terwilliger and then I read this last paragraph and my heart just breaks for her and the life of a road wench she has been forced into.
It's a tough job, Connie, but someone's gotta do it!

Union work -- sweet!
And lucky they are to have found you -- they got the whole package: smart, experienced, talented -- and (I hesitate to mention) attractive, to boot!
Congrats, and enjoy,

Connie, you have a voice like butter. I mean that in a good way. I'm from the south and we love butter.
Seriously, what a great smooth delivery you have.
