I've been doing radio for the past 3 years (traffic/news girl) and I've been lucky to snatch some voice work on the side but I don't know if my voice and demo are truely up to par to make it in this business. I want the hard truth. If anyone can listen to my demo and give me any feedback it would be GREATLY appreciated as I don't know how much time and money I should put into this.
Check me out at www.voice123.com/carlycash.

I tried, Carly...but "this page is unavailable".

Why don't you post the demo at the Critique thread? You'll get much more brutal honesty that way.

Carly,

The link didn't work but I clicked over from your profile name above your picture. Yes, post in the Critique area next time.

But, maybe you can fix up a few things before you do. Audio quality is not too great--too many level fluctuations. Music is too faded in some spots (the clothing spot) than others and you can pick up on some mouth noise (clicks/pops). Also, one tip I picked up recently was to transition from one spot to another much quicker--don't do the fade in/out--it's too disruptive.

I did like a few reads though--you seem to have an energetic quality with some versatility (like on the Color spot and a bit on the Milk one too). I could hear a bit of that "reporter" coming out at times though.

I won't be the only one to suggest listening to a bunch of demos from other pros on this forum. I'm a newbie too and am still learning so take all this with a grain of salt...or some tequila and a lime.

Cheers,
Cameron

Robert - there's a period on the end of the URL, just erase it in your browser and it takes you right to her site.

Carly - welcome! I gave your demo a listen. One thing that pops out isthe fading between elements. That's not done anymore, instead, make them go right into one another, bambambam.

As for your reads, there was alright stuff in there. I heard a possible VO, but right now, your news read comes through WAY too much. I've done news, it's hard to pull back and do ANY other type of read when you do news for some reason. One trick is watch which words you accent on. In the newsworld, there's a tendency accent the last word of the sentence with an up-and-downy type delivery. Big no-no when reading copy. It's hard to convery with just text, but just deliver lines like you're talking to your mom or a girlfriend etc. Natural is the way to go.

Anyways hope that helps a bit! You've got potential, just need to work it out!

Lucas beat me to the punch. The comma, or period, or whatever it is, screwed up the link:

I haven't listened yet, but will do so shortly.
