I want to take a second to say thanks to several of you guys (you know who you are), for the words of encouragement over the last couple of months.
I was laid off in November and finally decided to pursue my side gig (VO work) as a full time career. The first couple of months were scary and I kept thinking about hanging it up. But several of you have taken the time to give me advice and encouragement. I appreciate it more than you know.
I'm happy to say that I feel like my career choice was the right one. Over the last two weeks, everything just started happening. I've gained 5 new clients and had a near thousand dollar week this past week.
I'm working hard at the self promotion and marketing and have a genuine excitement for the future.
Thanks again. For any new people here, stick around. You'll learn a lot and meet some good people. |

Here, here!
As a newbie trying hard to make this my full time, I hear what you're saying, I had a great month in January, but it's scary not knowing what's next, you know? It's good to hear a story like yours. Keep the hope alive!

Excellent, EXCELLENT!
Yes, the transition can be scary, it can be hard at times. And some months there are no checks coming in. But when it's all said and done, it sure beats having to work for a living, eh?
I'm really glad to hear this, Todd. Great news! _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Thanks everybody.
It also helps to have the greatest woman on the planet firmly behind me pursuing my goal. Actually, she tried to get me to quit radio a year ago to do this.
I'm leaving no stone unturned in pursuit of work. My new motto is, "What's the worst someone can say? No?"
If they say no, I move on to the next. I'm so excited.
Thank you again, all of you. |

Well I'm sure the morning radio people will miss you....Your sense of humor is so keen, biting, and unique!
Anyway, I'm glad your not only getting work but good paying work. I'm sure I could learn a thing or two from you about marketing. Marketing is the hardest thing for me. |

Honestly, I'm not doing anything clever in marketing. Just knocking on doors and hoping for the best. I do mean knocking on doors literally and figuratively. Locally, I'm walking in places and showing them that I am professional and want to work.
With online marketing, I'm making phone calls instead of just an e mail and a demo.
Some things never go out of style and I think "personal service" is one of them. |

Hi Todd
I am in the same boat as you. My full time job finishes end of March after which I will be pursuing acting (both voice and on screen) as a career. I am pretty nervous about the whole thing as I have got used to a regular income and have had to learn so much about the industry (and still have lots to learn). The catch is I also live with my parents so regularly get the 'when are you going to get a proper job' speech.
It is nice to hear someone else is taking a risk and following their dream I am hoping maybe voiceover jobs are like buses and suddenly come all at once. |

Hey Jenna,
Congrats on the new life. Yeah, it's scary and sometimes discouraging, but what job isn't. Go for it!
But don't wait for that bus to come to you. Chase the bus you want. |
