Colin:

I knew there was another reason, among the many, that I like you - you're a Nutmegger! (I'm a transplanted Nutmegger.)

I don't have any point of reference regarding the "Antique Mile" of which David speaks, since I'm not a CT native...but I can tell you in the 3.5 years since we've been here, I've absolutely loved our sightseeing trips up on Rt. 7 and throughout the Northwest corner. That entire area, as well as the eastern portion of NY state is just gorgeous.

David:

Are you still doing anything with your music?

OK, well, I think we've all sufficiently hijacked the thread now!!

I tried a Character Voice today. Here are the instructions:

A Pest Control company is looking for the character voice for the cat 8 :30 TV spots.

We are looking for a younger higher pitched/ squeaky, cartoon tone with a snappy, fun, enthusiastic read. Please look at the storyboard and read with enthusiasm and fun.

We are not looking for deep, scary or slow.

What I came up with is a kind of Edith Bunker/Curly (3 Stooges) Do you think this is what they had in mind? Anybody else try this one?

David:

Great job!! I got that lead, too, but I'm not in my studio at the moment so I can't post mine. (Not sure that I will now, anyway, after hearing yours!)

The only thing you could've added at the very end to really add the finishing touch would've been a good "nyuck, nyuck, nyuck!"

That was great David.

It pained me to delete that one because of the budget but I only have a few characters in my repertoire and they wouldn't work for this.

I have to say your first read was the best. Good luck.

David, Jacob, Eric:

Thanks, guys. I'm not sure why a cat would have a squeaky, excited voice, but if that's what they wanted........

Wouldn't the 'Nyuck, Nyucks' infringe on a copyright?

David, go ahead and post. You never know what will work for them. Mine could be way off.

When they originally posted, I was thinking of a deep nonchalant kind of thing. I guess a voice of Garfield type read.

Maybe they got too many of those.

OK, what the hell. I haven't posted any work here in forever so go easy on me!!

I only did a couple of lines - and since they were emphatic that they wanted a young/high-pitched voice, I even tried to slate young.

I guess they like it OK - I got a "4."

Smile

Their first submission wasn't as specific and I went with a kinda "Mighty Mouse" voice since their website shows him as a sort of Superhero.

I'll have to resubmit for the new listing.

David Oxford:

There you go! Your audition on the Pest Control rated better than mine did. Shocked Oops! I promised not to mention ratings any more.

I passed on all the comic book Ant and Cat characters because:

a) my cartoony voice repertoire is pretty meager and
b) I had my suspicions about such a huge budget, despite Vic's assertions

I listened with envy to the "Alaska Inside Passage" reads that Travis and others gave on last week's thread and lo and behold the lead FINALLY showed up in my inbox today, a week later, with all of 3 slots left to submit. Seeing as how these folks apparently listen to 100% of auditions submitted, I submitted the attached.

Scott:

A fine delivery on Alaska. I submitted mine last week, fairly early in the count of 100. Some must have been opened due to a rating average of 3.8 being posted, but mine's not been opened yet. Would you let me know if yours gets opened?

I was also skeptical about the $3000 price on eight :30s for the Pest Control Cat Character job. Legit offer or just looking for a lot of auditions? They kept changing the description too. I dunno.....

Scott, et al:

Interesting. I remember when this listing was posted the first time and the discussion came up about the 'big budget' and I found myself thinking, "Why do we bitch and gripe about all the $50-$75 jobs and then become suspicious about a $3K job?" Mind you, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone....I'm saying that I had these same thoughts, too.

I suppose if the larger-budget jobs were more common here, the suspicion would be nil?

Just an observation. Carry on!

David:

I don't know if they changed the description that much....wasn't it more a case of it being relisted? The 2nd time around, they stated (more emphatically) that they were not looking for deep voices or slower deliveries, that they were looking for younger, higher-pitched, upbeat deliveries. Yes?

Anyway, it would be interesting if we did somehow know the eventual outcome of it.
