Hi folks, I said a quick hello a couple of weeks ago but figured I'd do so again. I'm your typical radio guy interested in this related but altogether different business. I posted an audio sample of my equipment in the geeks forum, for those who care to take a listen. I love to learn and contribute when I can, so I plan on trying to hang around if you folks will have me!

Hey Drew welcome to the boards!
I know you didn't ask, but I just wanted to comment on the demos on your page. Your imaging demo is getting there, but your commercial has that "typical radio guy" sound. That sing-songy up and down delivery. Even if you listen to the first word of your first commercial "every". It sounds like you're drawing out the "uhh-evverey".
Today's VO market calls for natural reads and a magical phrase called 'guy next door'. Go to http://voicebank.net and listen to some of the top notch guys, you'll see the sound I'm talking about. Or you know what, you work in radio, think of the national spots. What does the announcer at the end of a KFC spot sound like? Like you were cutting your grass and he's on the other side of the fence telling you about this chicken he had.
That said, I think you've got an awesome pitch to your voice, and with tweaking and practice, you'll go far.
Talk to you soon! _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

Hey Drew, welcome.
Yup, gotta agree with Lucas, and I'm a guy who had to shake off 30 years of bad radio habits. You have a wonderful timbre to your voice, but EVERY commercial spot sounded EXACTLY alike. It's like you have one speed. Back off, don't sell us, TELL us. Talk to us like you're my best friend and you should do well in this industry.
Best wishes! _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Thanks Lucas and Scott...yeah those "demos" were somewhat thrown together. The commercials are actual 10 second reads that aired on my station, so they are more or less just a place holder. Now that I finally have my home studio workable except for some tweaking, I plan on putting together better demos that aren't so "radio," because believe me every time I hear those I think the same thing. Lucas...voicebank is an excellent resource! I was there a couple of weeks ago sampling voices that I thought were similar to mine.
Thanks again to both of you for the encouragement and words of advice, it's very much appreciated!
