May I ask why it is that there are only one or two people who give a critique of demos. It seems to be the same people over n over again, giving out the same old advice. Are they the only people allowed to be critics? |

No, it's only those of us who have no life and, instead, hang out here on the forums!

While you will find many helpful people here on the forums, not everyone is kind enough to take the time to offer their help consistently. Kudos to those who do.
It is a valuable service.
Those who post their demos here for critique are in their debt and are usually very appreciative. _________________ Voice Talent Productions

No, you can criticize, too.
If you know what the hell you're talking about.

Keith, I'd have to give your question a 2 out of 5. It's a valid concern, but your rhetoric is a bit on the vitriolic side. The emoticons thing is sooo 2005.
Anyhow, a constructive response:
1.) I'm not so sure that there really are that many people that post here regularly in the first place.
2.) Many folks are scared off by the googleability of the forum. Whatever you write pops up the next day and lingers for a while it seems.
3.) Scott and Melba et al are real pros and it's a wonderful resource to get their opinions: not many places where you can get a slice of humble pie like one can here. _________________ BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!!!

"Googleability". Cool word, Lance. I'm going to use that in conversation soon. Try saying "google-able" -- sounds really funny.
To seriously answer (because I feel bad for my snarky reply above, however tongue-in-cheek it was):
I first offered a "critique" when I saw that no one else had answered some guy's plea for several days and he replied to his own request for critique with a mopey faced icon or something. I felt bad for him. Then I started feeling bad for those wide-eyed hopefuls who had been taken by a demo mill workshop and told they'd book their first national any day. I hated for them to think they should quit their day job. My heart aches for those who are misguided so I try to break the news gently to them before someone really mean does. But I'm also irritated by those delusional folks who think it's easy and have more toot than talent. And those who are promising -- well that excites me, and I want to cheer and help if I can. Because mostly they don't pose a real threat to me!
But mostly, I figure people ask for opinions because they want them. I'm no one of consequence. I don't speak to things I no absolutely nothing about. And this is all just opinion, anyway. I'm just a person with some experience, some wonderful mentors in the real world and maybe a small quantity of adequate chops. And apparently....waaaaay too much time on my hands! Okay, enough. I'm just trying to keep from editing. I'm gonna be up all night! I'm a ninny! I give my post a 1. |

I generally don't critique b/c others who have responded to the request have done so in a sufficient manner, that there's no point in beating someone over the head with constructive criticism.
That, and time. _________________ Caryn Clark... THE Hip Chick Voice!

I don't understand Keith. No matter how many there are, there simply are professional voice talent that give out contructive advice for free.
And what Caryn said is an excellent point too. Generally, whoever posts first usually hits the nail on the head. What would be the point in seven other people coming in and posting the exact same thing?
I don't see your problem. Well you know what, I do see your question, what I don't see is why you were so rude about it. _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

It could simply be a "Bambi" thing. As the character Thumper said.
