Greetings,

A cross section of some samples I'm considering using for my latest demo. Non genre/format specific. Welcome any and all thoughts that anyone would like to share.

Bring the pain,
Curt

Honestly, your voice is painfully deep -- meaning, it hurts my eardrums and it sounds like you may be hurting yourself.

The only clip I actually liked was the "starts with a single cell". It was clearly in your true range and your sounded like you cared about what your were saying. The others sound like you're thinking -- this is my deep voice, hear it and be amazed. Laughing

Seriously, of all those deep, power clips the Braun clip (very last one) could work since it has that deadpan feel to it and that actually gives it some personality, but there's nothing else on there that I would use.

Voice over is acting -- not having a deep or good voice. Show more variety. Be more like a real guy and concentrate on what you're saying to me, the listener, instead of creating a rumble that shakes the window panes.

If that's your real pitch, Curt, you need to train it. Well, what the heck, your voice needs training no matter WHAT your real pitch is. I agree with Melba in that the 'single cell' spot sounded the most comfortable. All the others sounded like you were really straining to reach down into your bowels to pull out your voice, even if you weren't.

But going far beyond all that is that the deliveries just aren't very good. You're delivering mediocre 'reads'. You're not believable or smooth or real in any of these. Whether or not you're really 'taken' with your own voice, it SOUNDS like you are. I just don't hear your average listener being able to relate to this.

For a few, very rare types of spots, like "Beef! It's what's for dinner!' or a Monster Truck ad, your tonal quality is a good fit, but you'll still need to work on being REAL. Even if it IS a Monster Truck spot.

Get some voice coaching and training.

Worry about the demo later; when the time is right.

Let me play Paula Abdul here...

I thought the Kingsford read was really good, but the production was annoying and distracting, and your voice did sound strained.

The Gorgeous spot didn't do anything for you (I don't know if would work for any dude), but the Single-Cell was nice.

The less you try to impress, the more you will be persuasive.

The less you try to push your voice out, the more it will cut through.

As Paula would say, keep at it.

You would have to be more feminine. Perhaps some pink nail polish?

Oh come on, you know he paints those.

Dawg, I go away for a day and look what I miss! I was laughing so hard it took me three tries to log in.

Thank you for calling me Randy...he's the bomb, man! Way to bring it home...yeah....you know...I really liked that. I mean, I was thinking right at first...ehhh, this might not work and you had some pitchiness right at first, but, you.. you...you know what I really like about you? Man, you made it your own. Cool shoes.
