Are you watching?
Who are you rooting for?
What did you think of the Beatles tunes last night?
At this point there are three that I've been impressed with.. the dreadlock guy, the guy who rocked Eleanor Rigby and the girl with the tattoo arm (although I wasn't crazy about her "Come Together" cover). Being from Oregon, gotta root for the Oregon girl too... even if her "Eight Days A Week" cover was weird and I'm not really a country music fan.
Young David sure let his nerves get the best of him, huh? Poor kid. _________________ Dave DeAndrea

The "Eight Days a Week" rendition was awful.
I haven't watched enough to root for anyone just yet, but I wasn't terribly impressed with most of the contestants I heard toward the end of the broadcast last night. In the recap, it did sound like there are some very talented folks though... they just sang before I tuned in.

Yeah. I think she could have kept a country feel but maybe should have slowed it down instead of speeding it up... it would have made the "hold me, love me" lyrics come across a little sweeter. _________________ Dave DeAndrea

Dave - great topic!
Well I could write an essay on how I feel, but in the short term, I'm going for either Archuleta, the Irish lass, Chikezie (sp), or Brooke.
Amanda Overmyer does NOT belong there. Not sure why she keeps making it through.
Brooke just seems so into the music of it and I think actually deserves to win the most just because of her love of it. However since AI's target demo is probably about 14-21, I don't think she'll cut it. It's like Simon says, it's a popularity contest.
Speaking of which, did anyone else find Seacrest a little... merry... last night? It's like his hectic schedule is getting to him so he had a little bit o' the irish medicine before going on the show lol. He sure was in a rare mood. And the best exchange between him and Simon so far was:
Simon: "Uh... Ryan..." (smiles)
Ryan: "Uh... yeah!?" (nods)
Simon: "...watch it..."
Ryan: "uh... why... cause you have nothing clever to say?"
Not sure why lol but we were busting a gut with that lol. _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

I'm not a big fan of her style either... I can only handle a little of that Janis Joplin vibe.
Now which one is Brooke? Is she the one who did "Let It Be?" and the Carly Simon cover a few weeks ago? _________________ Dave DeAndrea

Yeah that's her. lol she looks like she literally stepped out of the 70's. Her 'Let It Be' was really good. I like that she didn't go all over the place vocally. She kept it down and just performed the hell out of it.
The fact that Amanda is still there kinda makes me think that the votes aren't so democratic as they say. I honestly think they kept her in to have difference in personalities. ie her supposed "genuinity". _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

Oh, we're big geeky AI fans at our house! I like about half of 'em: Archuletta and Ramieyle (not sure of the spellings on anybody) are amazing singers, as is the Irish lady. David Cook is, in my opinion, the best and most original arranger for himself -- and I have to say Chiqueze (spelling??) is too, after last night's amazing performance/arrangement. Brooke and Jason can both deliver a song like nobody's business -- they both have really good phrasing abilities. The others I couldn't possibly care less to hear. Growling Rock Biker gal is so bad I actually feel embarrassed for her. It seems she can yell, but cannot actually carry a tune, as was demonstrated in the bludgeoning she gave Kansas a few weeks back. I do not know how she made it to the top 12. Is she the Sanjaya this year? |

LOL Oh man I completely forgot about David Cook.
While I think he's not the best singer there, he is for sure the best performer. I agree Melba, his arrangements are the best. Although Chikezie and his banjo stuff was good too. But Cook is the only one I could actually see as a star. _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

Yes, Chic-ee-zee (lol! gotta notice how it's spelled) pulled my three favorite forms together (old time+blues+funk) and it was gritty euphoric brilliance. We were jumping over the furniture higher than Tom Cruise on ritalin.
Cook makes ballads sound like plausible power rock without blinking an eye. If he walks away now, I dare say there could be promoters and producers already standing outside the studio door, contracts in hand. Shame it takes a televised talent show to do their work for them to scour the backwater bars for talent. If not for AI that guy would've probably languished in that Tulsa dive til he turned forty and gave up to go sell insurance. |

Chick Easy's "She's A Woman" was one of the best things I've ever heard on AI.
I turned to my wife and said "I was thoroughly entertained"
And then those were the exact words Randy Jackson said. _________________ BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!!!

Oh man I'm with you on that one. I feel embarrassed for her pretty much every time she's up there. I've been saying the same thing. And lol yeah I think she's the Sanjaya of this year.
She sounds like someone taking a hacksaw to a steel bar.
She sounds like a 98 year old man with bronchitis.
She's the female equivelant of Eddie Vedder, if he had throat cancer and couldn't control the volume of his voice.
...here all week. _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

I gave up on "Idol" a few years ago.
Besides, why watch that tripe when GREAT t.v. like "America's Wildest Police chases" is on??! _________________ Scott R. Pollak

lol that or Don't Forget the Lyrics.
In actuality though, I never miss the first open audition shows, but this is the first year in which I've followed it show to show. I know you were kidding Scott, but I really don't get the hate that Idol gets from people. It's just a TV show.
Besides, COPS is the best reality show forever. _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

I skipped Idol last season and skipped pretty much all the shows until they decided who was really going forward. Like the final 24 or 16...
Personally, it just bugs me when they get cruel and mock people who they set up for the sole purpose of being mocked. I believe they (the singers) go through screening processes and the screeners think "Hey, this person's pretty good" or "Hey, this person's terrible and it'll make good television when Simon rips 'em apart."
I'd rather pass on the rough fluff and get into the real competition. I don't want to start a threadjack here... but, well... here we go! _________________ Dave DeAndrea
