Okay, now that we're down to 10, who would your top 5 be? Not "who do you think will be in the top 5" but who is YOUR top 5?
For me, tough call but I'd probably say:
David Cook
Carly
Brooke
Dreads
and Syesha _________________ Dave DeAndrea

MY faves are in everychanging order:
1) little cute kid David (either that or I want to pat him on the head and take him to little league -- can't decide)
2) good arranger rock dude David
3) powerhouse Carly
I like Chick-E-Zee, Brooke and Dreadlox. They're not the greatest singers and they tend toward goofy performance, but each are charming, heartfelt and seem to march mostly to the sound of the little drummers in their heads. |

LOL Melba. "Dreadlox" doesn't even have a name. But I know who you're talking about.
I really like David Cook, Carly, Chick-Easy, and the Johns dude from Australia.
Although alot of people like Archuletta, he reminds me of the Donny Osmond of the 21st century. He's ok to watch, but I'd never spend $20 on one of his cd's. I'd rather burn it for free.
BTW: Anyone who can pull off Neil Diamond with class is an instant winner with me. It's not how they can sing his songs, it's how well they represent it on stage. I'm looking foward to tomorrow night.

I missed the first half of the show but Cook is as creative as the beat-box guy from last season. Although he's still a little shaky, I just want to hear Dave A just belt out some power notes.
Cheers,

Always the problem with Idol-
I agree - Cook is very good and entertaining to watch (particularly in "relief" - most of the other contestants aren't very good at all)
BUT-
David is only "original", "bold", "hip" and "wildly creative"...if you've never heard the contemporary artists he's covering in the first place. He's good at it, mind you, with a great voice -
But, he's not coming up with these arrangements on his own-
To my sensibilities, Syesha Mercado is a big fat bore.
A VOICE, yes - but her lyrical and interpretive skills are ZILCH - she never seems to know what she's singing about - there are dozens of African-American girls with comparable voices - who also can't USE them - lots of people can blow air through a saxophone but that's not enough to make one a Coltrane - and I thought Syesha murdered a classic Gladys Knight joint - she can make pretty noises, but she's got no idea what she's singing about.
None them are very interesting to me - thank goodness for my DVR so I can skate through and reduce the viewing time to something reasonable... _________________ www.peterganim.com

AMEN! Though I totally dig David Cook, Brooke, and Jason Castro. I like that David is completely different and Brooke and Jason...well, that's the Starbucks barista that I used to be loving the sound of a mellow voice backed acoustically. I enjoy David Archuleta for the pure voice, kinda the way I admire Josh Groban's voice, yet I would never buy a CD of his. MY prediction? Bye-bye Kristy Lee! _________________ Life is short but sweet, for certain

Sorry, late to the party!
That Australian guy was awesome! I usually find him boring, but man he brought it bad last night.
And of course David Cook. You just can't argue with his star power. I think he is the only one on the show that could actually be a star. Yes he has an ego, but as with any performing, you need a bit of an ego to believe that you are that good. Of course if the Aussie keeps up what he pulled last night it could get very interesting! I find it a bit alarming that I'm agreeing with something Paula said lol, but if Cook were to come out with a CD, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Brooke was good as always. And that straight hair is sooooooooooo much better than that 70's feathered thing she usually does.
Jason has to stop smoking up before the show. Seriously, I agree with Simon that he's not taking it seriously. He has to realise he can't just giggle and shrug his way through something like this.
Chick-Easy started out awesome, but kinda lost me by the end. And even Archuletta seemed a bit off! I think his nerves get to him too bad sometimes.
And I'm not ashamed to say that Kristy-Lee was really good! She didn't blow me away or anything, but I thought hers was one of the better performances last night.
I have absolutely no idea who will be bottom 3 tonight, but if I had to pick it would be:
Syesha
Jason
... I don't know? lol _________________ http://lucasnugent.com

Dude... were we watching the same show? I didn't care for his Queen attempt at all (even though the judges seemed to enjoy it). I think he's a decent vocalist but I have the feeling that he picks songs that he likes but aren't really good for his voice.
Carly is starting a downward spiral too... great singer, strange song choices. PULL UP! PULL UP!!!
My bottom 3 based on last night...
Ramiele
Carly
David Archuleta
and just for fun, I'd like to vote Amanda out again. _________________ Dave DeAndrea

Awe, that was cruel. J/K
My least favorite performers last night were:
Chikeazy
Archuletta
Ramiele
My fav's based on last night's performances were:
David Cook
The John's dude from down under
I really liked his performance of "We Are The Champions" and I'm a big Queen fan. Not many ppl can pull off Freddy Mercury, but last night, he did.
I missed the results show tonight. Who went "bye bye?" _________________ AllisonScussel@comcast.net |

I think the whole discussion about David Cook's originality is really misdirected and misunderstood (not in this forum - but in other discussions, on TV, etc.) There seems to be this general disdain for him because he's "not coming up with these original performances himself." Huh? I don't seem to recall American Idol being about who could be the most creative in devising musical arrangements - I thought the premise of the show had mostly to do with being a SINGING competition (with performance, relatability, etc. being obvious, vital elements of the overall criteria, as well.) This onadnonadnonadnon about him "stealing" somebody else's arrangements is so incredibly tiring.
First of all, EVERYBODY on the show - since Season 1, Day 1 - sings covers. Period. The fact that we have people who are singing covers of a cover (or some different 'take' on an original) is meaningless. I suppose if someone wanted to have a discussion about whether he "stands there and takes all the praise for the 'original' composition he just performed," then you could....but not with much intellect involved; Cook has never said (not that I'm aware of) that HE was the author of any arrangement he's done - and even Ryan Seacrest gave props to the artist (Chris Cornell?) who invented the very-different version of Billie Jean that Cook performed PRIOR to his performing it. So I can't fathom this argument, either. (Daughtry did this last year to nary a rumble.)
To say that Cook is egotistical? I don't buy that, either. Does he have ANY ego? Of course - or he wouldn't have what it takes to stand up there in the first place. We ALL have SOME degree of ego - there's nothing wrong with that. The problem is when it becomes the dominant trait in one's personality - and I just don't see that in Cook at all. Does he have more confidence than he had when he started? Of course! Why wouldn't he? Honestly, think about what his frame of mind would have been when this thing started and then think about where he's come since then. Until you stand up on a stage and put yourself "out there" for people (to either like or dislike) you just can't know what it's like....and then, for him to receive the kind of roaring acceptance from the audience, as well as judges comments he's received, how could he NOT be more confident today? Confidence is extremely important no matter what you do in life - sing, do VO, etc. After the Eleanor Rigby performance, I saw a young kid being drowned by the audience with the kind of approval you can only dream about - and he was taken aback and caught up in the delight of the moment....some people took that as arrogance. No way.
OK, off my soapbox now! Whether David Cook wins the thing or not is irrelevant, at this point. I think he's got a big career the day the whole "Idol thing" is finished, as will several others: Carly, Brooke, Michael (he KILLED the other night!) and eventually, Archuletta.

It seems like the field is leveling out a bit as the truly talented people rise to the surface. Personally, I really liked Syesha's performance tonight... she's been the only one thus far who has stirred my emotions when she sings. And believe it or not I actually thought the Australian guy did a good job. The usual suspects did well... David Cook, Carly, Brooke, etc. I just can't get into David A's vibe... he's good but... I dunno?
If it were up to me, Ramiele would be the one to go this week. _________________ Dave DeAndrea
