I'm sure most of you got the e-mail from Juan asking for feedback for the new "SmartSearch" feature that our friends at Voice123 are working on. I'm not exactly sure this is something for SmartSearch rather than SmartCast, but perhaps they should consider adding a "Slate or No Slate" choice for seekers to select for their leads so we'll know which way they prefer to receive their demos. While they're at it, perhaps they could add a third option: "Slate? What's That?" so we'll have a better idea of what we're dealing with when we audition. _________________ For more voice over demos, my life story, and other foolishness, please visit my website at www.leegordonproductions.com |

lol...There is way too much going on before one submits a demo already.
I like the old 123.. it was better, simpler.
Now there is:
Stop wait! Do you know what you're doing?
Stop wait! Do you know why
Stop wait! Because submitting your demo......
Stop wait! You must also submit something more, you are just one step away from submitting your demo, a generic one is required too
Stop wait! Are you sure you wanna submit a demo
Stop wait! Did you slate? Please check the box before submitting so the voice seeker knows if there is a slate inside..
Thank you for using the smartsearch our smartcast for smart~talent in our smart~cast system.
You will receive a smart~confirmation once your demo is submitted. _________________ Always trust the voice within!

Well, there's the Voices dot com alternative: easily submit demos for as many leads as you want and then be left to wonder if any of them were ever listened to. _________________ For more voice over demos, my life story, and other foolishness, please visit my website at www.leegordonproductions.com |

I never wondered before. If a client likes what they hear they contact you directly.
If they didn't read or open it they probably found what they are looking for. Plus there is no contact information left by the voiceseeker so you can call them up ask why they didn't listen to your demo.
Stop wait! I forgot all about voices-com
Stop wait! Did you know this is a reply to your post.
Stop wait! let me know when you read my post.
Stop wait! Am about to click send... _________________ Always trust the voice within!

Good one, Louis.
Knowledge is usually power -- but not when it comes to V123. Knowledge is further confusion.
With VOICES, it's just a matter of faith.
Let's see -- faith or knowledge?
Tough call. _________________ Diane

Knowledge tells me how stupid and no good I am. Faith tells me there are forces beyond my control but I am loved anyway. Can they make a computer program like that? I vote for that one. |

Yeah!
It's a tough call.. As spock would say an illogical belief in the occurrence of the improbable belief in something for which there is no proof is irrelevant captain.
But there's a little bit of Captain and Spock in all of us...Are you out of your Volkin mind..
Tough question. Well have to save that for the open forum on family radio.
And may we take the next call please....Actually they did make some what a device that runs on water...It's called an 8 ball...You shake it and it will answer all your questions....
I'd vote for a computer too... _________________ Always trust the voice within!

I usually slate-short (then right to the take) in online auditions. ALWAYS slate if it's an audition that you're doing for an agent...
"Hi This is Julie Williams represented by ___"
Rarely do more than one take... unless the copy is only a sentence or so...
and I've never been slapped by SmartCast for slating.
I appreciate the system at voices dot cm...even if you don't know who listened. When you sumbit auditions thru agents, you don't know if and when they listen either. At least voices doesn't limit the number of auditions you can do...when you paid for the rigth to get leads!
And they don't send nasty emails if you're in a hurry nd out of the studio and have to upload a demo instead of audition! _________________ Julie Williams

| I got around the slating controversy by naming the file with the project name followed by my name (XYZ Corp Brice Lewis). that way, if they download the file, they still have the name of the talent. |

If they look at the file.
No guarantee on that either.
Witout being obnoxious, remind the client of who you are, when you can, as best you can, as often as you can (see initial caveat).
Wash, rinse, repeat. |

That might be OK on Voices dot com, where I believe they pass the demos through with their original file names, but it is my understanding that Voice123 does not. They give it some arcane code number. _________________ For more voice over demos, my life story, and other foolishness, please visit my website at www.leegordonproductions.com |

Lee -- they do? Uh...why? (Perhaps I should add this to the WHY IS IT thread -- or perhaps we could start a whole new one called: WHY IS IT that V123 ____________) _________________ Diane

Indeed they do. When I was with V123, mine was:
