No... no... must resist temptation to threadjack... it's not fair to Doug... must.... resist.... oh, but I've got a story about how I interviewed Phil Vischer after Big Idea went through a bankruptcy and he basically had to sell all the rights and characters that he created to someone else and I asked him one of the 2 dumbest questions I've ever asked anyone in an interview.... but.... no ... must ... resist.... explodieren

When I type a reply or message, they're just off to the left of where the body of the message is... there's 20 there with a link underneath that says View More Emoticons. left

Okay... after he told me the whole sad story, my great follow up questions was, "Was that hard?"

His response... "WAS THAT HARD?!"

My other dumb question was to Kirk Cameron. I was thinking of my next question instead of actually listening to what he was saying. So after he told me all the stuff that he and his wife had planned in the next few months, I asked, "So, what do you guys have planned in the next few months?"

His response began with, "Wel... like I said..."

I am a moron. kopfnuss

Bring on the Lyle... I'm sure I'll love it.... get it? Love it?

Oh, Dave...dude, I am actually hurting for you. Oh well. You can be comforted by the thought that Phil Vischer probably tells that story, too. Well. Maybe not comforted. Laughing

Lovett. I was working prompter and script consult for an awards show. Lyle Lovett was presenting an important award and wanted to come backstage beforehand and practice on the prompter and make changes with me since he'd missed tech. It was midshow so backstage was dark, but I had a very strong, well-focused light. Now, we all know most folks see him as "ugly" with the sharp features and deep lines. But I tell you. He sat down, that light right on his face and turned to me and my breath was taken away by how astonishingly handsome he was. Bluest eyes I've ever seen -- sparkly and honest; great skin, and one of the most pleasant faces and smiles I had ever seen. (Incidentally also the nicest music "star" I've ever met -- so polite!) But looking at him it hit me: when I'd seen him looking "ugly" he'd been under the general lighting of talk shows and award programs. But with the light right on him, for him, he was strikingly, ruggedly handsome. The eternal truth is: There are NO "ugly" people...only those who are more difficult to light, than others.

I promise...(maybe)....we're done Doug. LOVE YOU MAN!!!!

Doug, I've held off from offering feedback since I don't do that very often anymore and it would seem you've already stirred up quite a nest of replies. But after reading all of the responses I thought I might as well give 'er a listen and throw in my 2 cents worth.

So, in an attempt to get your thread BACK ON TRACK HERE (ahem, ahem!!)...

The opening SFX jumped out at me rather harshly. Seemed like an abrupt way to jump into a demo. Having a teenager, though, (actually, two) I had no trouble recognizing "Bowling for Soup" although the audio quality of that spot seemed muddy compared to your opening bit.

Beyond that I'm going to agree with Dave here. There's not much variation and honestly, to me, your voice seems a bit out of place in a lot of these. You strike me as someone who has a voice 'age' and 'energy level' similar to both mine and Dave's; a bit more mature and mellowed. As such, it seems to lack the energy and edge that I found myself wanting to hear in most of these. I think you have a pleasing voice texture, but that many of these imaging pieces seemed to be a 'forced fit'. I'd rather hear you trying some Discovery Health or Nat Geo liners. (wouldn't we all?!). Also, you need work on breathing life into these. Your reads aren't bad, but they just didn't stand out to me as much more than well-done READS. I never truly felt that YOU were that much into what you were telling me here. The one that seemed the closest fit was the 20-20. Immediately following that, though, was an identical delivery style for American Idol that I never believed.

Sorry to be a downer, but I feel like you're capable of a TON more than what you're delivering here. I feel like you simply 'settled' for this one.
