I agree - Cook is very good and entertaining to watch (particularly in "relief" - most of the other contestants aren't very good at all)

David is only "original", "bold", "hip" and "wildly creative"...if you've never heard the contemporary artists he's covering in the first place. He's good at it, mind you, with a great voice -
But, he's not coming up with these arrangements on his own-

Peter, You are so right. David is not coming up with any of these arrangements. He ripped off Chris Cornell...

David Cook gave full disclosure last night on the previous weeks' arrangements. I think the bruhaha is the assumption that he always took credit for those; rather, I think the judges would simply say, "great arrangement" and it gave the impression that he was taking credit. However, last night, he says he did arrange what he sang. And the composer must have signed off on it...she was right there, eh? Seems the actual owners of the copyright are a lot less possessive of it than the little bands that cover.

I loved David C's arrangement last night -- that's one of my favorite songs; and Dreadlox seemed to be back with us, not feeling silly and out of place -- Laughing -- that was nice. I actually liked Australian dude for the first time since getting to the big room. Dirty country blues sound goooood on him. He could've done with one less wrong, though. Yeah, I think the little gal will go. I wish it would be country horsey girl. What a snooze. Ms. Mercado held the note too, too long. Made them run short on time up to the break. Funny.

It was a surprise to see Tattoo go last night. It was even more of a surprise that the girl who stopped her song at the beginning and then started again (is her name Brooke?) is still around.

By the way, I have an idea that would make the show better. People should be told to pick whomever they think should leave the show instead of their favorite singer. That way, you'll have fewer Mandisa-esque occasions in which somebody goes home mainly because the conventional wisdom was that they were so good that they didn't need more votes.

I know. I didn't think Tattoo would be going out 'til she was one of three. It's beginning to look like a fight to the cute among the three guys. Though the Diva could sneak past Dreadlox as she's apparently just good enough an actor to make folks think she's a singer. I like the Queen of Do-overs, but she should probably finish her songs at the start from here on out.

I'm not really sad that Oirish-girl's gone, but I really had hoped Syesha or Jason would go before her. "Belting out" only works if you've got the 'chords to belt. And to me, Jason has absolutely no right being there. Sure, his "over the rainbow" was awesome, but week after week, he looks like he's catching on less and less. What a role model; dress, act, and sing like a stoner.

Archuletta is going strong, but I think that David Cook is the only one who gets it. I think he's the only one who is really catching on to what you're supposed to do in that position. It's been said here and by the judges before, but he's ready right now. He's ready to go out and sell records and do shows.

My prediction is it'll come down to Brooke and the two Davids. Archuletta will win, Brooke will do some Lillith Fair type stuff and trail off into forgotten-land, and Cook will be the next Kelly Clarkson (rising above Idol and becoming famous on talent).

Um...hate to break it to you, but he's actually an evangelical, "born-again" Christian. He does smoke cigars now and again, however. And he dresses much nicer than the drug addicts I know, not to mention having much nicer teeth. His look is not extreme among men his age in the arts. But I guess it's easy to assume incorrectly based on convention...after all, John the Baptist didn't look or act the way a Levite priest should, either, eh?

I think Archuletta wins the whole thing, mainly because teenage girls - who I believe make up a very large portion of the voting public on this show - generally prefer pop music over rock, and David Cook is more of a rocker.

Not sure if this has been covered before, but I heard an interesting conspiracy theory last week... that the producers usually don't let the person that they believe could sell the most records on their own merits win the competition, in an effort to maximize overall sales of the contestants. Like if Contestant X has a really marketable sound that's good for 3 million records and Contestant Y has a good voice and might be something they can work with, they'll give it to Y because X will sell records regardless, and Y will get a boost from being an AI winner.

If it were purely based on fan voting, you'd think that the winners would be most popular and sell the most records. But look at the way Chris Daughtry (4th place) outsold winner Taylor Hicks, and Clay Aiken (2nd place) outsold Rubin Studdard. Considering the show's producers have a stake in all of the finalists record deals, it does make some sense.

So following this theory, don't be surprised if Archuleta wins this season and David Cook's album outsells Archuleta's.

Very astute on the prognostication about Archuletta possibly being the winner and Cook the runner up. I think so too.

IMO, Cook deserves to win. Archuleta should come in second. The majority of voters will keep dreadlocks in 3rd because of his good looks and charm.

I'm still bummed that tattoo was sent home. Crying or Very sad

No question David Cook DESERVES to win. But I can see them giving it to Archuletta. We never actually get to see the vote totals. Hmm.

Whether Cook wins or not, he's got a career - a BIG one - in front of him. I think he will eclipse Daughtry in record sales....but I can't disagree there's a very good chance he won't win because of the "teen factor."

Melba - actually I did not know that. Still, I can't stand him.

Oh boy so tonight we get to see the final two for this year. VFTW (Vote For The Worst) is backing Archuletta for some reason. They reference things like his constant gasping and closed eyes, but I think Syesha is far ahead of him in worst-ness. Something about an early 90's belting gospel singer caricature is just not that appealing as an idol.

I think I'll stay with my prediction that Syesha will go, and leave D-squared to duke it out. And to be honest, I kinda hope Cook doesn't win. Winning seems to be the kiss of death to most contestants. I'd like to see him take a graceful second, and then go on to his assured killer career.

And honestly I didn't hear anything about Archuletta's dad, until he was kicked off. That's too bad though. David seems like a nice kid, I hope he gets some management that will be able to keep his dad off a bit.

I'd agree with the guess tha David A will win... he needs to. Cook doesn't, he's already sure to go on to greatness.

I just haven't been able to connect with David A. He's a nice kid and has a nice voice, but it just doesn't do anything for me. I find others who have not made the cut much more interesting and would rather hear them (Tatoo, Syesha, Jason, Brooke) than David A.

Cook's my fav, though... he's had a couple rough spots but I was pretty much sold on him when he did "Eleanor Rigby".

Side note: Did you happen to catch Simon's face during Fantasia's performance? The only cut to him for a second, but it was hilarious! He had this "What the?" look that was priceless!

Dave,

I saw that look too. Simon must have hated her performance. It would've been funny if afterward he acted like he was supposed be be judging her and used one of his standard lines like:

That was (choose from the below menu:)

1. an absolute mess!
2. positively cabaret!
3. self-indulgent!
4. a song? I couldn't tell, what with all the screaming!
