So last week I actually auditioned a few times for 123 which I hardly ever do. Some were opened but no responses. No ratings even.

I think my feelings can be best summed up by the following image of a Jackass alone in the middle of nowhere.

I think he may become the Leads and Reads mascot.

I think maybe his name will be Mikey.

I'll be here all week folks.

Great photo --- sums it up.... only I'm not sure about the name "Mikey".
How about LeRoy for leads and reads.

Lately there has been an unfortunate run of no ratings.
Certainly we all hate low ratings..
But no ratings...feels like they deleted without listening.

Erik:

Yeah, it's like taking a hundred mile trip to find Nobody's Home. And you're thinking "Yeeeee-Haawwww! Yeeeee-Haawwwww"

Oh well. Saw this one today and I just couldn't refuse a shot at it:

Hi,

We are producing a 30" TVC for M&M's.
We open on the set of Dr Bill (a Dr Phil spoof) in a television studio in front of an audience. The camera is behind and above Dr Bill so we never see his face, only the back of his bald head. In front of Dr Bill are Red & Yellow.

We are looking for a voice impersonator for Dr. Phil McGraw

They gave no script so it was up to me to say something.

The average rating is 5, so they're giving everybody a 5 or only rating those that they really like. It's not much on feedback, but kinder I guess

David, I saw that same lead, too, and it was very hard to delete it in light of the budget. But after listening to Dr. Phil on YouTube I came to the conclusion I couldn't come close enough to him to pull it off.

I think you're quite talented based on your other auditions I've heard here, and while this isn't BAD... I'm not sure it's close enough to land you the job. But hey, I'm not the client and ya just never knows, does ya?!

Michael -- I don't think that's the case at all. I think no ratings generally means that the seeker doesn't care to bother with ratings.

I used to think that getting no rating when the project itself had an average rating meant that the seeker didn't even think enough of my demo to bother -- until I got a job from a lead like that. Apparently that seeker came to the conclusion that many of us voice talents have: the ratings are a waste of time.

Erik -- That picture could be the mascot for many of the seekers, if the only the camera angle were different.

Well, I wasn't going to submit a demo, but after weighing the plusses and minuses, I determined that the worst that could happen is another 1-star rating, and I've survived those before. So I just knocked this out and sent it in.

Scott:

I really thought you would have been able to do the Dr Phil.
Yes, I know mine wasn't a dead ringer, but it was too enticing not to try it. The viewers will figure out who it is from the video and it might as well be a so-so impression anyway. So what will the seeker base the decision on? A roll of the dice perhaps.

With just an average David Letterman impression I got a radio commercial. Do your best, they'll decide.

Lee:

Decent job on Dr Bill (Phil) Maybe could have used a little more twang. The seeker asked for 30 auds, got 32 and is not yet halfway through the submissions. And the ratings are still either 5.0 or 'not rated'. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

WOW, they gave a "5!"
Now let's see if get the gig.

Direction:
Pretty straight forward. Voice needs to sound professional yet somewhat casual. This is a "lifestyle" sell somewhat so hard sales voice is not needed. The voice does not talk "down" to the listener.

Optimistic, informed, friendly, professional

Super job on that read, JJ. It has to be exactly what the client is looking for (hence the 5). The average rating is 3.6 so this is not a case of an "easy grader." My own demo was opened but not rated. However, unlike the circumstance I related to Michael, earlier in this thread, I harbor no dillusions of getting this gig. Mine was OK but yours was way better.
