Let's say I've recorded a VO in the edit window....
now I want to record and add a slate.....
Here's how I believe it's done, but I'm not sure...
1) record your normal VO
2) insert into multitrack
3) record a new file (slate) in edit window
4) insert the slate into multrack and mix the
session
or
1) record VO into track one in multitrack
2) use pointer tool to drag the track forward,
far enough to fit your slate
3 record your slate into the open space at
the beginning of track one...
anyone one of these ways correct? |

Lee,
I guess both ways would work, but all you basically have to do is record the two separate parts and splice them. I don't even think you need to do it in multitrack; as I recall from my CEP-days, you can use copy and insert or whatever it's called and place the slate in the beginning of your vo-recording. _________________ Regards,

I guess the scenario that I was thinking of was...
Let's say you recorded your take in the edit window, and you mistakenly forgot to record your slate....you can't copy and paste
in the edit window because you don't have the 2 second block
of space needed to insert the slate... |

Again, as I recall (it's been several years since I used CEP), if you insert (copy-paste) a file in the beginning of an existing file, the existing file will make room for the new file automatically.
If this doesn't work, I would record the two pieces, save them as separate files, and use the multitrack editor to put them together. Remember, you can move the separate files around in the multitrack session as you please. _________________ Regards,

I use audition and I find this the most efficient way to handle a recording like your scenario . |

You can have multiple files open in the sidebar to switch back and forth in edit view. Go to your slate track, copy or cut it, then go to your VO track and paste in the beginning.
The other way works too but this is how I would do it. Just act like it is an insert, it is. _________________ Voice Talent Productions

"Save as..." (or whatever it is called in AA) and give the edited file a new name. _________________ Regards,

You could also record a 'generic' slate and save the file. Each time you start a recording session, open the slate and just keep it there. Record your auditions, one by one, and then simply drag the files (in multitrack) where you want them, whether you slate first or last, and simply mix them down and save the mixdown. You can then close all files except your slate - and you're ready for the next one.
Just my nickel's worth.
