I've been informed of, and have checked out the VO Planet website, but I can't seem to find out enough about them to determine if I want to join. Donna Summers, the director liked my demo and said she'd represent me and that I should join, that there are some projects that would be a fit for me.
However, when I call or e-mail Donna, or Michelle to find out more about their service I don't get any response, except for a couple of testimonials from other talent that they've e-mailed me.
What sets them apart from V-123 & voices-com? Any feedback?
Thanks much! |

I was looking into them about a month ago... I talked to 3 very talented and successful voice talents who are with them and the combined amount of work they've gotten through that service is $0. That was one of several factors that made me decide not to board that ship. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I got a promotional e-mail from them today (I assume you got one, too and that's what prompted you to bring up the tiopic) and one of the people it cited as having had recent success with them is September. So maybe we should ask her if it's on the level. _________________ For more voice over demos, my life story, and other foolishness, please visit my website at www.leegordonproductions.com |

Yeah, I'm not a paying member here (or TOS) either. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

There was a thread about this not too long ago, and Ember responded. She was happy with them at that time - booked a decent gig, I believe.
That piqued my interest, and so I called AND emailed them to inquire about their service, and I received NO response. With all due respect, I'm not going to pay money to people who don't care enough to respond to my inquiry.
That, coupled with some other talent who've had bad experiences with the prior iteration of their agency made me think twice about it. _________________ Caryn Clark... THE Hip Chick Voice!

Lee I received the same email from VO Planet today too. Very intriguing to see some of the big-ticket jobs that have come down the pike over there.
However, I do want to urge people to assess their own marketing business plan and take into account all the avenues they are pursuing and the possible costs involved. For example your plan might involve; having an agent in one or more cities, subscribing to sites like Voice123 or voices-com, etc., working each day on cold calling and creating new contacts through leg work on your own, creating and maintaining a powerful website, writing a monthly newsletter, working regularly with a coach who also puts you in contact with people in the business, asking for referrals from existing clients and contacts, attending voice-over conferences and networking actively yourself, etc.
There are probably thousands of people on Voice123 who have hardly made a dime and have auditioned many, many times for public leads. However there are also people who have made many thousands of dollars and enjoy repeat business from multiple clients and who very rarely answer public leads. Whose opinion of the site would carry the most weight? They’re both valid experiences.
Something I use as a “ruler” to gauge a website’s professionalism is how quickly and professionally they respond to my inquiries. Also, is their site easy to navigate? Have you done a search for a voice like yours on their site and found it easy and quick to be presented with a talent pool to choose from? Have you read their site in-depth and like their business practices?
I think it’s interesting to get opinions from other talent but the decision to join one of these sites should be based on much more than other people’s experiences as they can vary so widely and ultimately have nothing to do with YOUR potential success on the site. And in my opinion, a decision to pay money for a marketing tool, (or seminar or piece of equipment or promotional effort), should always be based on the bigger picture of your overall marketing/promotion plan and your budget.

I have landed a good gig through them. The easiest gig I've ever had that paid the most money I've earned for the least amount of work. I got the email that VO Planet sent out as well, so I know the monetary amount is pretty much public record So, yes, the membership is already well worth it.
I also joined because the Williams' are local to me. They get things from time to time from companies who want to record at Crawford or other local studios, so that's a big plus in my book. There's fewer talent to compete with and I like that. Also, not very many with my type of voice. No crazy low-ball leads is nice as well.
There seems to be a lot more leads for males, young and edgy males mostly. There's maybe a lead every week and a half that I will respond to. As for support, I've never needed to use it so I can't say. I can say that Michelle was always very prompt when I emailed her with questions about the client, recording times, etc. I think I've auditioned for 3 leads and landed one so far, so that's a good ratio.
I like that all of the jobs are high-end and pay well. I like that Sony has come to them twice to book jobs. They deal in quality, not quantity so even if you land one gig there a month, it's cool.
Of course, it's just my opinion and experience, but I'm happy with my investment _________________ Life is short but sweet, for certain

September brings a great point into focus here before deciding if the site is a good investment for you -- the kind of voice types best served by the site. The kinds of leads posted. How much competition for those leads. That's VERY helpful information. _________________ Diane

I've been with them about four months, Hail.
I simply love their leads: they're big, beautiful and gaudily wrapped Christmas presents; all just sitting there.
So far - with about three auditions per month - none of those packages have had my name on them.
Still, I much prefer not getting a $3,000 job to not getting a $75 one.

And once again, Mr. Jadah bags this year's award for best response to a thread... ever.

Has anyone gotten any leads from them in a while? I have not, which is why this thread perked up my eyes. Wonder if I need to be emailing someone..... _________________ Chris Mezzolesta
