Okay, over in L&R a few weeks ago a bunch of folks were posting their reads for the "Ten" project which talked about 16 million drivers in L.A. I submitted for that and got rated 5 stars. The client got 151 auditions and opened up every single one of them.

Now the project has reappeared asking for ANOTHER 150 auditions, but this time: "Need a cool hip vibe. Needs to feel like someone who lives in LA. Someone who knows what is going on. The VO needs to sound very natural. Like a Desperate housewives kinda natural. The VO should sound like a person talking…not a movie trailer vo."

... unlike the original request which stated:
" A. An all-knowing sci-fi 21st century Twilight Zone narrator
B. The worldly, womanly voice of the City of Angels. The voice of
the freeway that's seen it all and knows it all "

Sorry boys. You got my audition and apparently loved it.
What's apparent to ME now is that you don't have a clue what it is you're really looking for. I only jump thru hoops once.

Delete.

It's times like these that really shake your faith in the Seeker.

So many unanswered questions. Did they really like all those reads, or were they just being kind? Did they actually open and listen to all 151 auditions or did they delete some? Why post the same copy for both the man and woman character? Do they really have a project at all, or are they just messing with us? For all the details and all the stats and all the valiant though often convoluted efforts of 123, we can never really know.

Stay strong, brothers and sisters. Stay strong.

My guess is that they were using the auditions as a way to shape their creative, to give that read a test run.

I didn't like the original direction, and that was why I didn't submit to it. I thought it was mucho cheezey. I should have though, for the ratings.

As for the new direction, I might audition for it.

You may be right, Lance. That has happened here before, more than once. I remember a lengthy thread on it some time back. It was nice of them, however, to reward the unpaid members of their "creative team" with the high ratings.

I submitted for the "new" ten -- three different ones including the 16-million cars with the new direction.
Now I have gotten three "5's". (four 5's if you include the previous one)
But since the averages are 5 or nearly five for all -- it's hard to dope this one out.
But as a newly freed hostage said when asked what he thought of the guys who kidnapped him and held him for many months in Lebanon, "when the guy brings you food every day, you tend to like him."
Same with seekers, clueless or otherwise who give you 5's.

I guess it's better when a seeker likes everything as opposed to one who hates everything and rates everyone a "2"

Here's hoping they actually make the film and hire some of us.

The 5 seems to have become a goal in and of itself.

Curious...

When everyone gets the same, 2 or 5, that makes it completely meaningless, doesn't it? Except to the almighty stats.

All things considered, I'd rather be a free man. I will not audition for this.

If you get two fives, then that's The Ten, right? Wink

well, the other voice descriptions I didn't think I could pull off, but the hip, cool vibe I felt comfy with. So I got my free 5 Smile 'Course, I didn't know they'd been putting this lead up a lot before.

I'm still trying to figure out what it is in my profile that has prevented me from getting this lead, either the previous time or this time. I am apparently the only participant on this board not to have gotten an invitation and one or two 5s for this project.

I must have unchecked "Young Adult Male" from my specs.

I hate to be "that guy", and I'm regretting posting this even as I write but; isn't that what this site is about?

My guess is the seeker decided that the original directions were no good for the product, and hence, needed another type of read. I mean, they're allowed. They don't have to take a voice just because someone auditioned. Yes, they should have a clear direction of what they're looking for, but it sounds to me that they thought they did have a clear direction, but later changed their minds.

Now, I get the hard work that goes into an audition just to have it come back up with a different set of instructions. But to me, it's the nature of the beast. You don't go to KFC and then complain that they have too much chicken.

The difference here is that they gave the first batch of chicken a bunch of FIVES. Seems like this seeker has quite an appetite.

Had all the Rod Serlings hopeful they might land it, and then changed it to a Mac commercial on them.

Still, it is better to have auditioned and gotten that 5, than never to have auditioned at all. (Comme moi!) Wink

Personally, I'd give it to Dave DeAndrea -- I think he could do a cross between Rod Serling and Justin Long and make it work.

In your OWN way...you guys are all RIGHT ON.
Like Lee, I didn't get the first invitation. I saw the thread y'all were talking about, and heard your great demos.

So I received the new invite, with the NEW instructions, and figured the seeker simply switched gears. Someone up top said "...it needs to be more "desperate housewives-ish".

And that's what I gave 'em...And another "5" was posted...
I'll take 'em when I can get 'em.
