His answer was that by auditioning less I would receive more work. In theory, that's correct. By limiting to only certain jobs that fit the voice talent's brand, the voice talent will book more work. But if four jobs fit the brand, with the average # of auditions at 1.4 in 8 days, then auditioning for the four jobs means not receiving new projects for some period.
That doesn't serve the voice seekers. |
Frank:
Allow me to respectfully disagree. In the REAL WORLD, auditioning less would mean LESS work. I've been in media sales for about half of my working career and no matter how you dissect it, the more calls you make, the more potential you have to make more money. That's not to say that working smarter and making fewer, higher-quality calls during the course of a day or week or month isn't viable, too...but in order to get TO a point where you have those kinds of clients to call on, you have to start by playing the numbers game first. And you have to continue playing the numbers game if you wish to continue to grow and to replace the occasional losses you might incur along the way.
With a "pay-to-play" online system such as this, however, it's not the same as the above scenario. By paying a fee to have access to the leads.....and by setting up your keywords so as to properly match up the RIGHT leads to your voice/capabilities.....the whole "audition-less-to-get-more-work" theory is rendered a complete farce. It also renders the whole recent idea of the voice tagging irrelevant, too...it's not necessary and it's overkill when the voice talent has already established their keywords....but I digress. If the leads that a talent receives from the system have ALREADY been filtered by our keywords (and/or the stupid new "tagging" system) then the theory is those leads ARE relevant to the voice talent (provided the system is actually capable of delivering the correct leads) so why would the system then PENALIZE the talent for acting on those leads??? It makes ZERO sense.
I'm sure glad I didn't feed these bozos the $300 they wanted when it was time to renew.

And in case you missed it over on leads and reads, I'll repost what I uploaded this morning, since it applies here, and I'm sure will bring more than a few smiles....

Sounds like a price increase to me. |
I don't KNOW there is a price increase on the way, but "tiered system" sounds like one. Or it really will be "SmartCaste"?

When I was still a "Premium" Member post-SmartCast I received almost as many good jobs for African American Males as I did for good non-specific gigs.
If they restrict your ability to audition, it's good because it gets Johnny First Timer a crack at winning a gig so that he'll renew for his second year.
v123 is so 2003. I'm over it.

Dave,
TOS doesn't place limitations on auditioning, and their business model seems to be popular. So now we are going to be asked to shell out untold Benjamins just to arrive at a service COMPARABLE to TOS. Makes no sense.

we don't know yet that money will be the way to get into the higher smartcaste; maybe there'll be a quality control department that will make the distinction ( )

Dave,
Yes, no shortage of leads there, though I kinda feel like auditioning there is more like bowling in the dark. No feedback. Ever. Just keep on auditioning. Hard to stay motivated. I'm actually one of the few--or so it seems--that LIKES getting rated. And ratings I get here help me pick reads to slap background music onto and reuse in auditions over there, for one thing.

Having the same issue with voice123 and getting the same run around. I also complained, again, today and was told of this new "tiered system for pros" - If this is another way to get into my pocketbook I am done. And if I continue to be punished for making a living at vo (read - too many auditions) - I'm out anyway. It's like they can't seem to stop shooting themselves in the foot.
