I think he was a genius!

Perhaps this is what inspired Tom Green to wear snorkeling gear to the mall and swim in the fountain as "Scuba Hood"

This is the best. Period.

Andy was awesome. Elvis said he was his favorite impersonator.

The Mighty Mouse song? Wrestling women? Everything he did on Taxi?

Genius.

Talented man, he was.

Love the song he inspired by REM.

yes, a very funny guy...
so funny he faked his death... errrr, well, at least that is what he said on his blog back in '04 ..
is it really him? dunno .. but, damn, its funny... and, imo, something only Andy could have pulled off..

the whole blog is a riot and, if anything, reminds me of The Man In The Moon..

thanks much for the vids, Simon

Another point of view...
He never made me laugh... I thought he was very talented but uncontrolled and pathetic.
Also, he spawned a few wannabees with the same style of humor which doesn't appeal to me, personally.

Yes, I see that, Michael.

He was what I'd call a watershed comedian. He was an interesting, talented actor, too -- lots of potential there. It's all a matter of taste and preference. I must say I don't find a good portion of what passes for comedy these days as being very funny. It seems all the true wit has gone out of it. There are notable exceptions, of course, and some brilliant satirists, too, out there now.

Still, like the REM song.

On Andy Kaufman:

Once during a radio gig in SF I was asked to complete a bio questionnairre for use on the website. I put AK as the celebrity I indentified with most. To me, it always appeared as if Kaufman was BOTH (A) unsure about his own talent and overwhelmed by his continued success and (B) Entirely sure of his talent and obsessed with testing to see just how successful he could be with it. I think that thinking really represents a common illusory experience of duality that a lot of people live with.

Also, Was that whats-his-name Richards from from the Seinfeld TV show in the first clip posted here?

I'm more of a Tony Clifton guy myself. Much funnier than Kaufman Wink.

Kaufman's Foreign Man turn into a surprisingly dead on Elvis was reminiscent of Jim Nabors' hillbilly monologues juxtaposed with baritone arias.

So is it Kaufman is to Clifton as Harrington is to Crapper? Which is the inventor and which is a mere invention? Hmmm.
