Hi guys,
My name is Alan and I'm new to the voiceover industry. I have worked in radio and done commercials for radio and television, but I never considered myself a voice talent per se. Many years after my radio days, I find myself trying to work my way into this industry. I hope to learn from all of you whether I even have the "chops" to pursue it. If so, great! If not, there's always competetive basket weaving... I look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome Alan,
We are happy with the outcome the forums had during the last week. We really hope for this to be a gathering tool for all the VO community and a great resource for all of us.

Hi Alan!
Welcome to the wonderful world of VO! I listened to your demo, you have nice smooth delivery and a good range.
Like you I came out of radio - 20+ years in and out of broadcasting. I've been doing voice work since 1984- mostly for fun. But even when I was OUT of radio, I still kept doing voice work - more and more each year. I educated in the school of hard knocks and good luck. To make a long story short - I've been doing voice work full time for three years now from a home studio and I LOVE IT.
My advice for a newbie: 1) Get good VO training - if you're not near a big city there's telecourses. Just be careful that the teachers are legit and have a good track record, there's a lot of snake oil salesmen out there. 2) Read up on the craft of VO - there's LOTs of great books. I suggest Pat Fraley (he's AWESOME if you can take a class with him DO IT!) James Alburger's "The Art of Voice Acting" is just coming out in a new third addition - chock full of training and tips, it's a great starting point. 3) Get more training.
I love that old saying "If you find a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life." VO IS that job! [img]
Well, that's my two cents, hope this helps.
much success!
