Help to a newbie

Greetings all from North Carolina. I have been lurking on these boards for a couple of weeks and would like to ask some questions:

1. Is there a lot of opportunity for good business from voice123.com? Yea, 200 bucks is not a lot of money, but is it money well spent?

2. I am fortunate enough to have access to a nice studio for nearly free, but it would be limited access. With that being said, I see a lot of people saying things like if you don't answer a lead in the first few minutes, you can forget it. True?

I didn't mean to sound cavalier there, Jeff, but you have to understand that there are 10,000 voices here.
Most of them think they have something to offer, else they wouldn't be here.
That's 10,000, Jeff.
Firstly, do not believe that you can be the judge of what you have to offer.
The market will tell you. Often rudely.
So get in there, and take John's advice.
But, Mister, do not expect the slightest nibble over the first, say, 100 auditions. And don't expect any revenue for the first, say, six months and 500 auditions.
That way, you won't be disappointed.

I spent the money. 240 leads answered, no jobs yet.

I have learned a ton, but it sure would be great to get paid for something.

I say the education is worth the 2 bills though if you are ready to study your rear end off.

Jeff,

This is a business but it is more importantly an art. Very few people here, if any will ever become a household name, more will have a moderate amount of success. Even more will make a modest supplemental income. Truthfully the vast majority will never make a dent and give up.

Even though I am just starting out in this myself, this has been a passion of mine most all my life. I am just now doing something with it. I still have a lot to learn about it as a profession, but that is why I am here. I look at it this way though. Some people sink thousands into a bass boat and all the gear or hundreds of dollars in video games and all of the stuff that comes with it. They never make a dime from it, but they continue to sink money into because they are doing something they like/love/have a passion to do.

This is what I want to do and whether I ever make a dime from it, it does not matter. The enjoyment will come from perfecting the "Art" and finding out what I do best and becoming the best at it. I will never be Don LaFontaine, but I could become a Keith D. Milby one day and I would be happy with that.

If I can make a buck from all of this, then that will be a bonus.

Gosh, I hope I did not come off too corny. Rolling Eyes

Jeff - If I were you, I think I'd spend my money on a little more education/coaching first. Your demo is not bad ... it's just not great. There is nothing that really "pops" about it. I believe the potential is there and with some expert advice you could take it to the next level.
