I hate my performance in the last commercial of this demo....I was thinking of adding one jingle to the commercial demo. I can already hear David Goldberg at the edge saying "It's unprofessional". I mean that's what he said about my 4 min book demo. I personally think that unconvetional and unprofessional are two different words.....
What do you guys think?

Oddly enough, after listening to your demo I thought that the last spot on it was the one thing you might be likely to be cast for. The rest of it in my opinion sounds studio produced and not indicative of what I would consider casting you for. I don't know how old you are, but you sound very young and I think you should have doubles and ensemble work where you play teenage daughters, etc. I'd also love to see if you could do anything beleivable sounding that was really young - 9 - 14 year old. Women who can do kids voices are in greater demand for commercials, video games, anime and cartoons. Personally, although I produce commercial tags and corporate stuff, I can't think of anywhere that I have cast anybody with vocal characteristics similar to yours. Now, games or educational training, I hire voices that need to sound 9 - 18 years of age all the time.
Just curious, tell me why you would can the Progressive spot and why you think you should keep any or all of the other stuff. Feel free to send a private if you prefer.

I used to sell, write, and perform radio spots. Perhaps I just don't like the script. Also it was a cold read. I think I sound a bit whiny on the first line and I was stubbling on the last line. I've written a jingle for Progressive that sounds more mature and is jazzy and "catchy"
I do have character voice that is about 6-9 years old. I havn't made a demo of that voice yet. I've used in in Stand Up comedy for a joke that is pg 13. Should I record the slightly dirty but funny joke or try to get a hold of an animation script or video game script? These are questions that make me go Hmmm? I will post my narrative demo it has a butterfly kids documentary on it.
Also Gilbert, out of curiosity which commercial do you like the least and how do you feel about mixing jingles with commercials?
Thanks for listening by the way.
Deby

If you look at the V123 newsletter, you'll see that the breakdowns of jobs on here doesn't actually offer much for character voices or jingles. Developing those skills and marketing them elsewhere may pay off, although I can tell you that the market for jingle people is relatively tiny.
Developing a natural young sounding read for commercials and working to produce a nice listenable corporate read seem to be the main things that might get you work here. After listening to your stuff, I'm not sure you're the gal to do the tags.
Hope that helps

Deby-
Sounds good. How long can you sustain that?
It does need a little polishing. A little less lisping and stuff, but that is a good one to have in your bag of tricks...

Deby,
Drop the lisp and practice. Spend as much time at home in character and experience things as that character to be able to develop emoitonal attachments. Have a conversation with a friend over the phone and talk about things that make you angry and happy. It will start getting easier and more natural. Give yourself a little while and you will havesomething that quite frankly is more marketable than pretty much anything I can do.
Don't short change it though. Spend some time and really develop it.

Well George,
I don't know I think I could sustain it for a whole day perhaps a week. I would probably get on my nerves though since it is so high pitched. I made up the script while taking a bath and never even put pen to paper. If any of you can think or know of a better script for that character voice let me know!
Thanks
Deby Cedars
PS. I feel like putting my hair in ponytails and seducing a pedifile all of the sudden. (Just Kidding)
