this is all very depressing
each day more and more great talent arrives making it even more impossible for me rake in the big bucks as VO superstar..
hmmmm, what would Tony Soprano do?
Welcome John...
as many in The Forums have remined me, V123 is not a primary source for gigs... w/ each demo i send i compete w/ as many as 200 for the same gig (w/in my catagories).. in a year i've gotten one gig.. mostly b/c i'm a diamond in the ruff talent.. but even those who shine at their craft arnt making a living off gigs from V123 alone...
anyway, welcome to The Forums, lots of great talents and insights here.. look forward to hearing and seeing more from you...
Be Well

So you recycled the old Howard Cosell into Regis Philbin - very clever.
To me you sound like a darn good FM radio on air guy who as a result of consolidation and automation is now looking at reduced work schedules and so is hoping to supplement his income doing v.o.
I would suggest taking acting and improv classes. Your intital reads on your demo were actually pretty good. You could have played around a little bit more and even gotten deeper into the emotion, but then it all went into that "hey listen to me I'm a radio guy - don't I have nice pipes" sort of thing.
It seems like half the people here are "radio guys".
Purposefully, most talent agents don't represent too many people in the same category. Here I'm afraid there are many who do what you do. So it becomes a question as to which of you gets the audition in the quickest, with the lower pricing and if some of you can act, well that might boost the chances. Alledgedly V123 is going to lick this problem. I couldn't be gin to tell you how, but we all await with baited breath.
By the way, I'd skip the Yogi impression. If you don't do impressions dead on, then you're better off twisting them and making original characters out of them.
Realistically, V1123 should be a very small part of a well thought out campaign to earn an income as a voice talent. Continuing your training, developing personal makreting materials, and setting up a personal business plan can assist you.
BUt you have to say to yourself "What is it that I can do that someone would pay me to do rather than hire someone else?" That's how you work toward your money voice. Of course the fact that a $200 investment in welding equipment can genreally get you further than a $10,000 investment in becoming a v.o. to me speaks volumes.
Good Luck

Thanks, everyone, for the great feedback. JS, thanks for being straight. I just picked up representation in Milwaukee and part of my battle plan is to get some acting lessons. I'm mostly self-taught with some radio-ism definitely, but I'm on the right path. I'm coachable and motivated. This is definitely not where I'm seeking most of my work, and the work has been trickling in from other sources.
As for Yogi, I thought it was pretty good ! And I was up for an AIR Award for the Regis spot....oh well, seriously, thanks for the great constructive criticism. I asked for it
John
