Hey guys, I know NOTHING about Frank Frederick (no 's'.... I can understand his frustration re: the name thing, what with a last name like Pollak... no 'c'). I did read the article that started this thread and found it intriguing. I'm not going to get into the middle of this, but it did bring to mind something I've ALWAYS wondered about:

We always hear these guys on tv and radio who are hawking about how to buy real estate with no-money down and how we can start making $5,000 and more each month working p/t from our own homes using their 'simple techniques'. I've always wondered two things:

- If they've made so many millions doing these things, why on earth would they want to spend their time teaching classes or writing books or marketing their secrets? If it were me, I'd be off on a tropical island enjoying my millions.

- Why would you want to give away 'secrets' that have made you rich? Seems like you're shooting yourself in the foot. Now here at voiceoversavvy we DO offer tips to help out the other guys, but maybe it's because we don't really view them as direct competition (right or wrong). I don't know. But when a legitimate company, let's say Coca-Cola, develops something like their 'secret formula' that makes them millions, they do everything possible to protect that proprietary information.

Again, Frank, I am not casting aspersions here or making judgmental calls. If Amy says you're a good guy, that's all I need to hear. I'm merely posing two questions that have bounced around in my mind for YEARS about ANYONE who claims to have been a huge success and then wants to sell their secrets, that's all.

Amy, I've removed the controversial text. (I wish I could figure out why I can delete some posts and not others.)

I guess I've seen to many scam artists and hence I am very synical.

I agree Amy. Frank IS a great person and everything you've said is correct....he is worth defending. He has helped me immeasurably and is always available to me whenever I call upon him. Please everyone....although you may not agree with the concept of VOICE2007 not being free or whatever the issue is with VOICE 2007, Frank is truly a great human being and really doesn't deserve the questioning of his motives or character. The fact is Frank and most of the other presenters frequent a different forum where their help and advice and experience abounds and for free. I just want to set the record straight as far as personally (I have to defend Frank...he's been too good to me).....what everyone feels about VOICE 2007 is fair game. As Robert would say
Voice On! lol

And Tom, Amy, and Frank, again I want to reiterate that the point of my post above was not to take sides or make judgement. Again, if Amy, and now Tom, speak highly of Frank, I think that's pretty high praise. I just don't want my two questions raised in my post to be viewed as a judgement against Frank. They're not. They're simply queries.

No worries Scott. Everyone is entitled to a view point. It's just that I know Frank and know that he is opposite of the things being said about him, and I don't feel right not speaking up in his defense. As far as VOICE 2007....I am attending, and can't wait actually, but that's just me....I feel I will learn alot from this.....but that doesn't mean everyone will feel that way and I don't expect everyone to. I don't feel any negative feelings about you Scott or anyone here. I really dig you guys....I think you're a great group of people and I would defend any of you that I feel I know well enough, if I thought you were unjustly being judged by someone. All's cool...I said my peace.....
Voice On! Very Happy

Why would anyone take the time out to plan a big event where VO people can all come together to network, partner, mentor, encourage, learn, see Spamalot, and lose a roll of nickels in a one-armed bandit?

Maybe it's because most of us spend the bulk of our days isolated in padded cells and someone figured out that we all need a break, and this way it could be tax-deductible for all of us.

Maybe it seemed like a great business idea, and a few people willing to share the secrets of their success could make a little money on the side.

Maybe some people have the heart and calling to teach.

Maybe a combination of any of the above.

Last time I checked, this was still America where someone who has something can sell it to someone who wants it.

And if there was reason to be suspicious of the trainers, speakers, and coaches in a respectable trade like ours, then why not tar beauty school instructors with the same brush? What about art teachers and college professors as well? Your pastor draws a salary. What's up with that?

I enjoy the VO classes and workshops that I go to, I enjoy hearing speakers in my field, and I'm a usual suspect in a pro workout group on Monday nights. I also get a lot from hanging out on this message board, and my primary VO internet home. I've gotten help. I've booked work. I've made friends.

How cool it will be to meet some of these folks (and others) in person, and I'm confident that I will learn things that will increase my income for the rest of the year and beyond.

Nobody is saying "Come learn how to make millions with your voice! Come and learn how to simply speak into a microphone and never have to work again! Anyone can do it, come learn how! sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!"

It's a professional conference. Nothing to be upset or suspicious about. And the guy who made the disparaging website is only making himself look bad and nobody else.

If I may. I don't really know Frank very well, but I see him alot on another Forum that some of us belong to. On that forum he does post alot. I for one am not going to Vegas...only because I can not afford 4 days off. If it was only 2 days over a weekend, then I would consider for sure once I get stablized.

I too have read the original post, and it sounds like a little sour grapes to me. Personally, I have no problems with sponsers trying to make a buck off people. Hey, thats why they are advertising. NIKE, spends gazillions!!! Most of us here who are a little more advanced then the beginners spend a great deal of our time marketing ourselves, just like any other business would.

As far as helping people, I think most of us regulars here all do our part. Thats why I love coming to this place to hang out with all of you. If someone doesn't want to or doesn't have time, I have no issues...its their loss and their time...its a free country.

The Golden Rule always applies. Come on, lets have a big group hug...lol. Laughing Wink

Thank you one and all.

I reiterate my comments from a long ago and far away post...

"Everyone is welcome to come to VOICE 2007". I understand not all are able to be there, but, I do wish you well.

Perhaps at another time we will be able to meet and shake hands.

(Please note: I am not any better or any worse than anyone else. I just happen to want to have some fun and allow all of us the opportunity to share "war stories". I really cannot wait to meet ALL of you in person. If not in Las Vegas, then hopefully at some other time.)

Don't worry, Scott! You didn't sound critical (at least not to me!) I think your questions are fair ones.

Very Happy
